Kia Pegas 2024 - start from 97 AED / day

If you want one of the cheapest fresh small sedans you can rent in Dubai and you mostly need it to swallow a commute and an airport run, the Kia Pegas 2024 is a sensible pick. We bring it to your door in 1 to 2 hours, so there's no counter queue and no hunting for a depot. This is a plain, honest commuter with a boot that's bigger than the car's price suggests. The argument of this page is simple: rent it when you want low cost, an automatic, and real luggage space, and step up to something else when you want pace or a nicer cabin. We'll be straight about where it falls short.

The boot is the reason to book it

The Pegas hides a 475-litre boot, which is large for a car this cheap and this small on the outside. Two big hard suitcases and a cabin bag go in flat, with room for a backpack on top. That's the whole case for the car on an airport run. You can do a DXB or DWC pickup with two people and a week's luggage and not play luggage Tetris on the kerb.

Drop the rear seats and you free up enough for a flat-pack run or a bulky pram plus shopping. For a couple or a small family doing mall trips and a weekend away, the space is genuinely useful. Just don't expect three full-size cases standing upright. Two is the honest limit before you're stacking.

A budget commuter, and it drives like one

The 1.4L makes 95 hp through a 4-speed automatic, and that gearbox is the car's character. Around the city it's fine. You're rarely asking for more than light throttle, the auto shifts smoothly enough, and parking is easy thanks to the small footprint and tight U-turn. On Sheikh Zayed Road it's a different story. Merging onto the E11 at speed asks the engine for everything it has, and overtaking a slow lorry needs planning rather than a flex of your foot. It'll sit at 120 all day, but it gets there slowly and the cabin gets vocal above 100.

So this is a commuter, not a cruiser. If your week is school runs, office trips, and the odd dash to the airport, the Pegas does it cheaply and without drama. If you're doing daily highway sprints or you just want a car that feels quick, this isn't it.

Fuel, range and how often you'll stop

The 43-litre tank and a frugal little engine mean refills are rare. Kia quotes around 17.5 km/l, and in mixed Dubai driving you'll realistically see something closer to 12 to 14 once the AC is running hard and you're in traffic. Even at the pessimistic end, that's roughly 500 km between fills, so a normal commuting week often passes on a single tank. It takes regular 91 or 95 petrol, which keeps running costs about as low as a rental gets here.

Heat, AC and the small-cabin advantage

A small cabin is the one place the Pegas wins outright in summer. When it's 45 outside and the car has been baking in a mall lot, there's less air to chill, so the AC pulls the temperature down faster than it would in a big SUV. The front vents are strong and get the job done. There are no rear vents, which matters if you regularly carry passengers in the back on long, hot drives, but for two up front it cools quickly and holds. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat and you'll be comfortable by the time you're out of the car park.

Parking, Salik and the Dubai rules

At 4.3 metres long the Pegas fits the tight bays in older multi-storey car parks and slips through Marina ramps without you sweating the clearance. The 150 mm ride height clears standard speed bumps fine; it's a road car, so keep it off rough tracks. A few practical points to keep in mind: Salik tolls run on the car's tag and are billed to you, any RTA fines during your rental are yours too, and seat belts are required in every seat with a child seat for under-fours. Nothing unusual, just worth knowing before you drive off.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Pegas 2024 if you want the cheapest practical automatic sedan for a Dubai week, you value boot space for airport cases over speed, and you're mostly driving in the city. For a solo visitor, a couple, or a small family on a budget, it's hard to argue with the running cost and the doorstep handover. We rent from 18, which helps younger drivers who get turned away elsewhere.

Look past it if you spend most of your time on the highway or you want a cabin that feels less basic. The Honda City gives you a stronger engine and a more grown-up interior for not much more, and the Hyundai Elantra steps up again on space, refinement, and highway pace. If pace and polish matter more than the lowest price, size up. If the priority is a cheap, roomy, no-fuss runabout, the Pegas earns its keep.
