When someone calls our desk and says they just want a car that will not give them anything to think about all week, we usually point them to the Kia Pegas 2024. It is a five-seat automatic sedan with a straightforward 1.4-litre engine, controls anyone can find in the dark, and nothing on the dash that needs a manual to explain. We get it to your door within one to two hours of booking, and pay-on-delivery or a debit card both work fine when it arrives. This is not the car for someone chasing highway pace or a roomy back seat. It is the one we hand over when predictable beats exciting, and this page settles whether that trade fits your week in Dubai.
Open the bonnet and there is nothing here that needs explaining twice. The Pegas runs a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, 1,368cc, making 95 hp at 6,000 rpm and 133 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, sent to the front wheels through a 4-speed automatic. That is an older-style gearbox rather than the CVT some rivals in this class have switched to. A CVT can feel smoother on paper, but the 4-speed here is a known quantity, and it does not ask a driver used to older automatics to relearn anything. Around town, through junctions and the stop-start of a commute, it responds when you ask and settles when you do not. On Sheikh Zayed Road it holds 100 to 120 km/h without fuss if you are driving solo or with one passenger. Load it with four people and a full boot and ask for a quick overtake, though, and the gearbox takes a beat to find the right gear, so plan the gap rather than expect the car to find one for you. It is a front-wheel-drive city sedan built for tarmac, not for Hatta tracks or an unpaved shortcut.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol, 1,368cc |

| Torque | 133 Nm at 4,000 rpm |
| Transmission | Automatic, 4-speed |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | 475 litres |
| Fuel economy | About 17.5 to 17.8 km/l combined (quoted); closer to 12 to 13 km/l in real Dubai city driving |
| Fuel tank | 43 litres |
| Range | Roughly 750 km on paper; nearer 500 to 550 km on a week of city driving with the AC working |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,300 x 1,700 x 1,460 mm |
| Ground clearance | 150 mm |

The boot is the pleasant surprise here. At 475 litres it beats several bigger-looking sedans in the class, and it takes two large suitcases with a soft bag left over, which covers a DXB or DWC pickup without a repacking session on the kerb. The back seat is where the compact size shows. On a 4,300 mm body and a 2,570 mm wheelbase, two adults manage a short trip across the city without complaint, but a tall passenger behind a tall driver runs out of knee room on anything longer than that, and the middle rear seat is really a spot for a child rather than a third adult. None of that matters for a solo renter or a couple running errands. It becomes obvious the moment you add a fourth adult and a full boot for an airport run.
That same small footprint pays off the moment you park. At 1.7 metres wide, the Pegas slots into a tight Marina tower bay or a cramped mall level without a second attempt, and it is short enough to U-turn on a narrow street without the three-point manoeuvre a bigger sedan needs. Ground clearance sits at 150 mm, enough for a standard speed bump taken at a sensible pace, so ease off rather than push it over a steep basement ramp or a sharp hump.
Fuel is where the Pegas keeps its promise of an easy week. Kia quotes combined economy around 17.5 to 17.8 km per litre, a lab figure. Run the AC through a Dubai afternoon and sit in the usual stop-start traffic, and 12 to 13 km/l is the more honest number. The 43-litre tank still covers most of a week of city errands on a fill or two, and where the combined figure suggests something close to 750 km of range, 500 to 550 km is nearer what a week of real driving delivers.
Mileage on this booking runs 250 km a day, generous enough that an ordinary week of errands and commuting will not come close to the limit, and anything past it costs AED 0.5 a kilometre, low enough that one longer day out will not wreck the budget. Two costs sit outside that number and both land on the renter. Salik charges at every toll gate, so a regular run down Sheikh Zayed Road adds up over a week, and any RTA fine picked up during the rental passes straight to you.
Climate control here is simple, a single-zone manual system with no rear vents, standard for a car at this price. That plainness works in the Pegas's favour after it has sat baking in a car park at midday. There is not much air inside a cabin this size, so the front vents pull it from scorching to bearable within a few minutes of climbing back in, quicker than a bigger SUV manages. Rear passengers wait a little longer, since the air has to reach them from the front, so parking in shade or underground when you can saves that first uncomfortable minute.
Book the Kia Pegas 2024 if you want the least complicated automatic in this price range, a solo renter, a couple, or a colleague on a work trip who would rather not think about the car for a week. Set next to a Sunny or an Attrage at similar money, the Pegas holds its own on running cost, and it is the one we would pick first for a renter who wants zero surprises over a week rather than the last word in pace.
One number matters before you book rather than after. The minimum age here is 25, higher than some economy cars on our fleet, so if you are between 21 and 24, look at a different car regardless of price. Size up as well if you are regularly carrying four adults with a full boot, since the back seat and the modest engine both feel that load, or if your week depends on quick highway overtakes rather than a steady cruise. For what it is actually built to do, a calm, predictable car for a Dubai week that does not need a second thought, the Pegas earns its place, and we will have it at your door within a couple of hours.
