Kia Pegas 2022 - start from 89 AED / day

Pay how you like when we hand it over. We take cards, cash, and the wallets on your phone, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, so the Kia Pegas 2022 is easy to set up even if you've just landed in Dubai with no local bank account yet. This is the cheap commuter sedan that hides a genuinely useful boot, which is the whole reason to look at it. For a single driver or a couple doing daily runs and the odd airport pickup, it's hard to spend less and still get a proper trunk. If you're carrying four adults plus a week of cases, or you want real overtaking pace on the highway, you'll want to step up to a Honda City or an Elantra instead.

The boot is the selling point

Most cars at this price are hatchbacks with a shelf for a backpack. The Pegas is a small sedan, and that sealed trunk is the reason to pick it. In practice you'll fit two large 23kg cases and a couple of soft bags with room to spare, or three large cases at a push if you pack the cabin floor too. For a DXB or DWC airport run with a family arriving, that matters more than any badge. A short hatchback the same length forces you to fold a seat down. The Pegas swallows the luggage and still seats the passengers.

The cabin behind it is honest economy-class. Five seatbelts, real space for two adults in the back on a 30-minute run across town, and hard plastics everywhere. Nobody rents this car for the trim. They rent it because it's cheap and it carries their stuff.

How often you'll actually refuel

On a 43-litre tank at the rated 17.5 km/L, the maths gives you roughly 750 km between fills. Real Dubai driving never hits the brochure figure, so plan for more like 13 to 15 km/L once you factor in AC running flat out and stop-start traffic on the way to work. Even derated, that's a tank that lasts most renters the better part of a week of normal commuting. Petrol here is cheap, the tank is small, and topping up costs little. You won't think about fuel much, which is exactly what you want from a runabout.

The 95 hp 1.4 with a 4-speed automatic is built for that brief and nothing more. Around town it's fine. On Sheikh Zayed Road it'll sit at 120 happily enough, but an overtake at speed asks the old four-speed box to drop down and think about it. Top speed is 170, which you'll never use. If your week is mostly E11 cruising with a full car, the modest power and dated gearbox are the Pegas's weak spot, and that's where a stronger sedan earns its higher rate.

Heat, parking, and the Dubai basics

Park this in the sun in July and the cabin hits oven temperatures like everything else. The AC is a single-zone front system with strong vents, and it'll pull a baking cabin down to comfortable in a few minutes of driving. Because the cabin is small, it cools faster than a big SUV does. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers rely on airflow from the front, which is fine for short hops and a little slower to even out on a long one. Crack the windows for the first minute and it's quicker still.

Size works in your favour here. At 4.3 metres with 150 mm of clearance, the Pegas tucks into tight multi-storey bays, clears mall ramps and speed bumps without scraping, and makes U-turns on narrow Marina streets feel easy. It's an easy car to place and an easy one to park.

Two practical notes for any rental in Dubai. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, so each gantry you pass gets billed to you, and any RTA fine during your hire passes to you as well. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat. None of this is specific to the Pegas, but it's worth knowing before you set off.

Who should rent it

Rent the Pegas if you're one or two people who want a cheap automatic with a boot that actually holds airport luggage. Commuters, light tourists, and anyone doing regular DXB or DWC runs get the most out of it. The low running cost and the easy parking are the real wins.

Skip it if you're regularly four adults deep, if you spend your days flat out on the highway, or if you care about cabin quality and quicker overtaking. For that, the Honda City gives you more poke and a nicer interior, and the Elantra steps up again on space and refinement for a higher rate. The Pegas wins on one clear thing: it's the cheapest way to get a real trunk in Dubai, and for a lot of renters that's the only spec that matters.
