If the rate is what's pulling you toward this car, that's the honest reason to take it. The Kia Pegas 2020 is one of the cheapest sedans we rent in Dubai, an older-year, no-frills commuter we'll bring to your door in 1 to 2 hours. It books out with people who want a boot, a real back seat, and an automatic for as little as a week's rental can cost. So this page is about one decision: whether a plain, slightly slow sedan with a big trunk is enough for your week here, or whether you should spend a little more and step up.
We hand this car to a specific renter. Someone doing the airport run, the office commute, and the weekly shop, who'd rather not pay extra for badge or polish. The Pegas does all of that without complaint. What it won't do is impress anyone or hustle, and if your week is errands and steady driving, that's no loss. If you've got long highway stretches or want a cabin that feels a notch above basic, read to the end before you book.

For a small economy sedan, 475 litres is a lot of trunk. Two large suitcases sit in there flat with room for a couple of cabin bags on top, which is exactly what makes the Pegas a decent airport car. A family of four landing at DXB with a week's luggage will get it all in the boot and keep the back seat clear, something a hatchback in this price band can't usually promise. The opening is a touch narrow, so a hard case at an angle is easier than wrestling it in square, but the volume is genuinely there. If your trip is mostly about moving people and bags between the airport, the hotel, and the mall, the boot alone justifies the car.
The 1.4 and the four-speed automatic are built for cost and economy, not pace. Around the city it's fine. Off the line and through traffic it keeps up, and the gearbox shifts smoothly enough at low speed. Push onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the limits show. Getting up to 120 takes patience, and an overtake at speed needs you to plan it rather than just press the pedal. The four ratios mean it sits at higher revs on the highway than a newer six- or seven-speed car would. It'll cruise the E11 and handle a DWC run without drama, but if your days involve long, fast inter-emirate driving, you'll wish for more. For school runs, the office, and city loops, the engine is enough and you won't think about it.
The 43-litre tank and a realistic city figure put a full tank somewhere in the 600 to 700 km range depending on how heavy your right foot is and how much of your driving is stop-and-go. For most renters that's one fill at the start of the week and maybe a top-up before you hand it back. Petrol in the UAE is cheap, the small engine sips it, and that low running cost is part of why this car makes sense as a budget pick. You pay Salik tolls yourself, and the gates around Sheikh Zayed Road add up faster than people expect, so factor those in rather than the fuel.
A small cabin is quick to cool, and that matters when the car's been baking at 45 degrees. The front vents pull the heat down fast, and within a few minutes of moving you're comfortable. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers wait a little longer, which is worth knowing if you'll regularly carry people behind you in peak summer. Park in shade when you can.
At 4.3 metres with a tight 10.4-metre turning circle, the Pegas is easy to place. Mall multi-storey bays, Marina side streets, and U-turns are all simple, and the 150 mm clearance clears speed bumps and ramps without scraping. A couple of housekeeping points that catch renters out: RTA fines pass to you, not us, and seatbelts are required in every seat with child seats mandatory for under-fours.
Rent the Pegas 2020 if price is the priority and your week is city driving and airport runs with luggage. The boot is the standout, the cabin cools fast, it parks anywhere, and it's about as cheap as a real automatic sedan gets in Dubai. Look past it if you want a quieter, quicker highway car or a cabin that feels current. For frequent fast SZR driving or four adults who want comfort, a Honda City has the power and refinement the Pegas trades away for the rate. Want the same shape with a newer dashboard and more pace, step up to a 2023 or 2024 Pegas. For a no-frills bargain commuter, though, this one earns its keep.
