Kia Pegas 2020 - start from 71 AED / day

Pay us on delivery however suits you, by card, cash, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, even crypto, and we'll hand you a Kia Pegas 2020 in Dubai inside one to two hours. That flexibility matters on a car like this, because the Pegas 2020 is the one you rent when you're counting every dirham. It's an older model year at the softest rate on our small-sedan shelf, with a 1.4-litre automatic that sips fuel and asks almost nothing of you. This page is about exactly that: whether the cheapest sensible automatic sedan we run is enough car for your week, or whether you should spend a little more.

What you're actually renting

The Pegas is a small four-door sedan with a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, 95 horsepower, and a four-speed automatic driving the front wheels. There's a five-speed manual version too, but in Dubai's stop-start traffic the auto is the only one worth taking, and it's what almost everyone books.

Read those numbers plainly. Ninety-five horsepower through an old four-speed box is relaxed, not quick. It pulls away fine, holds 120 on the highway without drama, and that's the honest ceiling of its ambition. What it does well is cost you almost nothing to run.

How rarely you'll stop for fuel

This is where the Pegas earns its keep. The 43-litre tank and a real 17.5 km/L combined put a full tank at roughly 750 km, and around town you'll get close to that without trying. For a solo commuter doing the daily run from, say, the Marina to Business Bay and back, plus weekend errands, one fill covers most of a week.

Fuel here is cheap to begin with, so a frugal small engine turns into genuinely small money over a month. If your whole reason for renting is to spend as little as possible getting from A to B, the running cost is the argument, and the Pegas wins it against almost anything with four doors and an automatic gearbox.

Cabin, heat, and the AC

The cabin is basic and it doesn't pretend otherwise. Hard plastics, a small screen, manual everything in places you'd expect power in a pricier car. For one person commuting, none of that registers after day two. Four adults on a longer trip will notice the road noise and the firm seats.

On heat, the small cabin is an advantage. There's less air to cool, so the front vents pull a parked car down from 45 degrees Celsius reasonably fast, faster than they would in a big sedan. Park in shade where you can, give it a minute with the windows cracked, and it's comfortable by the time you reach the first set of lights. There are no rear vents, so back-seat passengers on a hot day feel it more than those up front. For one or two people, that's a non-issue.

Boot, parking, and city size

The 475-litre boot is the quiet surprise here. It's larger than the cabin suggests, and it swallows a big suitcase plus a couple of soft bags with room over, which makes a DXB or DWC airport hop genuinely workable for one or two travellers. Two large hard cases is the sensible limit before you're stacking on the back seat.

At 4.3 metres long and 1.7 wide, it slots into tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps without the shuffle a bigger car needs. The 150 mm ground clearance is ordinary, fine for the speed bumps and mall ramps you actually meet day to day, but it's a low car, so take humps slowly and don't go looking for unpaved shortcuts.

On Dubai roads

On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11, the Pegas cruises happily at the limit and overtakes when you plan ahead rather than on impulse. Above 100 the engine is working and you can hear it, and a sharp uphill merge with the AC on full asks more than 95 horsepower likes to give. Treat it as a calm city and commuter car that can do the highway, not a highway car, and it never disappoints.

A few Dubai practicalities worth a line. Salik tolls run on your account during the rental, and any RTA fine reaches you, so watch the gantries and the cameras the way you would in your own car. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat. None of this is specific to the Pegas, but the budget renter is exactly the person who doesn't want a surprise on the bill.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Pegas 2020 if you're one or two people who want the lowest sensible cost to get around Dubai for a week or a month, and you don't care that the cabin is plain. For solo commuting, light errands, and the occasional airport run, it's the smartest cheap automatic we hand out, and the older year keeps the rate lower than the newer Pegas models.

Step up if you're carrying four adults regularly, doing long daily highway stretches, or you want a cabin that feels current. A newer Pegas adds the six-speed auto and a nicer interior for a bit more, and a Honda City gives you more space, more pace, and rear vents if the budget stretches. But if the brief is simply "cheapest sensible sedan that runs on almost nothing," this is the one to book.
