Kia K5 2022 - start from 143 AED / day

Want a midsize sedan that looks like it costs twice the rate, rentable from age 18 when most of the market won't hand you keys until 21? The Kia K5 2022 is the one we point those drivers at. It rents in Dubai with delivery to your door, and it brings real road presence to a class that usually plays it safe. The argument here is simple: for the money, few sedans turn heads like the K5, and it makes a sharp commuter and airport car. We'll be honest about where the 2.0L engine and the ride fall short of a Camry's plush calm, and who's better off sizing down to save.

What you're actually renting

The K5 replaced the Optima and made a clean break with it. Low roofline, a wide grille, that creased tiger-nose face, and a body that reads sportier than almost anything at this price. People notice it in a way they don't notice a rental Corolla, and that matters if the car is doing double duty for client pickups or a wedding run.

Under the hood is the 2.0L four-cylinder, 150 hp, driving the front wheels through an automatic. That's the sensible everyday powertrain, not the punchy turbo sold elsewhere. Around town and cruising on Sheikh Zayed Road it's smooth and quiet. Ask it for a hard overtake at speed with four people aboard and it works for the power rather than surging, so you plan your passes instead of stamping the throttle. For a daily commuter that's a fair trade. For someone chasing genuine pace, it isn't the car.

Airport runs and boot space

The boot is 510 litres with a wide, deep opening, which is genuinely useful at the airport. Two large checked cases go in flat with room left for a couple of cabin bags, so a family of four off a long-haul flight isn't repacking on the kerb at DXB. The low boot lip means you're not lifting heavy cases high. For a DWC pickup at the quieter end of town, the long 2,850 mm wheelbase gives back-seat passengers proper legroom for the drive across, which a smaller sedan can't match.

The cabin seats five, and three across the back works for a school run or a short hop. For four adults on a longer trip it's comfortable, with the kind of rear space the K5's size promises.

Fuel, range and how often you'll stop

The tank holds 70 litres. In Dubai's mix of cooler highway stretches and stop-start traffic with the AC fighting the heat, expect somewhere around 8 to 9 km per litre in real driving, not the optimistic brochure figure. That's roughly a 600 km range on a fill, so a week of normal commuting and a couple of airport runs is one, maybe two, visits to the pump. Petrol here is cheap enough that the K5's appetite isn't a dealbreaker, but it drinks more than a compact, and if your week is all short city hops, a smaller sedan costs less to keep fed.

Salik is on you. Each gantry you pass is billed to the rental, and any RTA fines during your hire pass to you too, so stick to the posted limits on the E11. Seatbelts are mandatory front and back.

Heat, parking and city manners

Park a dark sedan in open sun here in summer and the cabin hits oven temperatures fast. The K5's AC is strong and pulls a baked interior down to comfortable within a few minutes of moving, with solid front airflow. There are rear vents to keep back-seat passengers from cooking on the school run, which not every car in this bracket offers. Start it, let it breathe for a minute, and it's livable quickly even on a 45 degree afternoon.

At nearly 4.9 metres long the K5 is a proper midsize car, and you feel it in tight multi-storey bays and on a Marina ramp. It's no harder to place than a Camry or an Accord, but it's longer than a compact, so a snug mall basement asks for a bit of patience. Visibility forward is good; the rising rear line and thick pillars mean you'll lean on the camera and sensors when reversing, and they do the job. On the open road it settles and tracks straight, which is where this car is happiest.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the K5 if you want a sedan that looks the part for the rate, whether that's daily commuting, airport collections, or showing up somewhere wanting to make an impression without a luxury bill. The styling, the space, and the strong AC carry it, and the age-18 policy makes it reachable for younger drivers who get turned away elsewhere.

If your priority is the softest, quietest ride and you don't care how the car looks, a Toyota Camry is the plusher pick and rides more serenely over Dubai's broken patches and speed bumps. And if you're a solo driver doing short city errands all week, the K5 is more car than you need; a compact sedan will park easier and sip less fuel. For everyone in between who wants style and space without overpaying, this is the smart rental.
