Kia Forte 2021 - start from 158 AED / day

Land at DXB with three or four people and a week of luggage, and the car that takes all of it without anyone holding a bag on their lap is what you actually need. The Kia Forte 2021 is that car on our fleet, and we'll have it at your terminal or villa within one to two hours of booking. It's an economy sedan built around space and low running cost rather than thrills, and for the broad middle of Dubai rentals that's the right priority. This page is about where the Forte is strong, where it isn't, and the point at which you'd want something else.

What you get for the money

The Forte 2021 seats five and sends 147 hp to the front wheels through a smooth automatic that suits stop-and-go Dubai traffic far better than any manual would. It's happiest doing exactly what most rentals demand: ferrying people and bags across the city in heat, day after day, without complaint. There's a hotter turbocharged GT version of this generation, but for a rental it's beside the point. You're not chasing lap times, and the standard 2.0-litre is the one that keeps fuel bills low.

What it isn't is quick. The engine is willing rather than urgent, so flooring it for an overtake brings more noise than shove. For a commuter or a small family moving between home, the office and the mall, that rarely matters.

Luggage and passengers

A 434-litre boot is generous for an economy car, and because it's a deep boxed space behind a proper lid, it packs better than a hatchback of similar size. Two big suitcases and a few soft bags fit easily. The deciding scenario is the airport pickup: collect three or four people with full cases from DXB or DWC and the Forte takes it, where most cars at this price would force someone to ride with a bag on their knees.

The rear seat is roomy enough that adults aren't folded up back there, which is rare at this rate. Two on a 40-minute run from the terminal sit comfortably, and three across works for shorter hops.

Fuel, and a week between fill-ups

This is the Forte's quiet strength. The 53-litre tank and the efficient 2.0-litre mean steady highway cruising returns excellent economy, and even city running stays reasonable. In practice you'll see roughly 6.5 litres per 100 km on the open road and nearer 8 in town with the AC working hard. That adds up to a genuine week of normal Dubai driving on one tank, which matters when you'd rather not lose time at a station between meetings or sightseeing.

Fuel is cheap here, so the cost to keep an eye on is Salik. Every gantry is billed to you as the renter, and any RTA fine during the rental is yours to settle, so stick to the posted limits.

Staying cool in summer

Every car needs covering on this point, because a cabin baked at 45 degrees is the reality from May onward. The Forte's air conditioning is solid economy-grade cooling. The front vents blow cold quickly and the cabin reaches comfortable within a couple of minutes once you're moving with the windows up. At this level you depend on airflow from the front rather than rear climate controls, so on the worst afternoons give it a head start with the windows briefly cracked before everyone climbs in. For the segment, it cools fast enough.

Around town and on the highway

At 4.64 metres it's a touch longer than the small hatches it sits beside, so in older multi-storey car parks around the Marina you'll want a little more care reversing into a tight bay. On the move it's settled and quiet at city speeds and cruises comfortably on the E11, though it asks for a run-up to overtake confidently above 120. The 135 mm ground clearance handles speed bumps and mall ramps with normal caution. It's front-wheel drive and a road car through and through, so leave the sand to a 4x4.

Our recommendation

Rent the Forte 2021 if you want a comfortable, frugal sedan that handles real passengers and real luggage for the week without costing sedan money. It's the smart pick for airport transfers, family trips and anyone who finds a hatch too cramped. Stick with the standard automatic; the GT's extra power earns nothing on a rental and costs more to feed.

If you'll mostly drive solo or as a couple on short hops, a smaller car parks easier and sips less, so you'd be paying for space you won't use. And if your plans involve dunes or a full load over rough tracks, you want an SUV instead. For the everyday Dubai rental, the Forte is a lot of sensible car.
