Hand over the keys to a Jeep Wrangler 2023 and the renter usually already knows what they want from it. We deliver it across Dubai and settle payment however suits you on the day, card, cash, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer, so there's no scramble at the kerb. This is the rental you take for the open-air drive, the Hatta run and a bit of dune fun, with the roof and even the doors coming off when you want them gone. It is not the car for a quiet, refined commute, and that distinction decides whether you'll love the week or spend it fighting the thing.
Under the bonnet sits the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, 285 horsepower through an 8-speed automatic and proper part-time four-wheel drive. You pick between the two-door, which seats four, and the four-door Unlimited, which seats five and is the one most people rent. The Unlimited gives you usable back doors and a far more practical boot, so unless you specifically want the stubby, more agile two-door for trails, size up to the four-door.
The body is tall, boxy and built around a ladder frame. That's why it climbs and wades where a soft crossover gives up, and also why it leans in corners and thumps over expansion joints. The roof and doors come off by design, and nothing here pretends to be a luxury SUV.

This is where the Wrangler earns its money. Ground clearance runs from 246mm up to 274mm depending on trim, which means rock steps, deep ruts and soft sand that would beach a normal SUV. The part-time 4WD is the real article, with low range for crawling and proper articulation over uneven ground. On a Hatta pools trail or a dune session out past Al Qudra, this car does what it was built to do.
A word of honesty: the Wrangler gives you the hardware, not the experience. If you've never driven sand before, stay on the graded tracks and don't go out alone. The capability is genuine, but it doesn't drive itself.
Out on Sheikh Zayed Road or the E11, the Wrangler is competent rather than happy. It cruises fine, but the tall body catches crosswind, the steering is vague at speed, and wind noise around the doors and roof seals climbs the faster you go. With the soft top up you'll raise your voice on the phone at 120. That's just what a removable-roof off-roader feels like at highway speed. If your week is mostly commuting between the office and the mall, a crossover will be quieter, calmer and cheaper to run.
Parking is the other daily reality. The four-door is long at 4785mm and the body is wide and square, so tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps need a bit of patience. The upside is a high seating position and big glass, so you can actually see the corners you're threading.
Dubai summers push past 45C, and a car parked in the sun turns into an oven. The Wrangler's AC is strong once it's working, but the cabin is large and the soft top in particular lets heat soak in, so give it a few minutes with the fans high before you expect comfort. If you're renting in July or August, take the hard top. It seals better, insulates better and keeps the cabin cooler than canvas ever will. Save the doors-off, roof-off experience for the cooler months when it's genuinely pleasant.
It drinks. At roughly 8.5 km/L combined, a V6 dragging a brick-shaped body through city traffic is not economical, and hard driving on sand drops that further. The four-door's 81-litre tank gives up to about 830 km of range on a good run, but on real Dubai mixed driving plan to refuel more often than you would in a sedan. Budget for that and for Salik. Tolls and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, and seat belts are mandatory in every seat.
Boot space is decent in the four-door and tight in the two-door. The Unlimited swallows a couple of large cases plus soft bags for an airport run. The two-door takes a case and a holdall and not much more, so if you're moving people and luggage, the four-door is the only sensible pick.
Rent the Wrangler if the trip is the point. For Hatta trails, a dune day, or simply the look and feel of an open Jeep, nothing else in the fleet comes close, and the four-door Unlimited is the version to take for the space and the rear doors. Skip it if your week is school runs and Sheikh Zayed Road in both directions. You'll pay for fuel you don't need and put up with noise and ride quality a crossover would spare you. Match the car to the week, and the Wrangler is one of the most rewarding keys we hand over.
