Picture a cool February evening with the top stowed and the road out to the desert opening up, and you've got the one drive the Jeep Wrangler 2021 does better than anything else we rent in Dubai. We bring it to your door in one to two hours and take payment whichever way suits you, card, cash, Apple Pay or bank transfer. The Wrangler is a specialist, though, and renting one only makes sense if your week uses what it's good at. This page is the honest version: what it costs to run, where its 4x4 hardware earns the rate, and the days it'll frustrate you. We rent the four-door V6 automatic, the version that turns a toy into something usable.
Let's deal with the part people underestimate. This is a 3.6-litre V6 hauling a tall, heavy, square-edged body, and it drinks. Real economy lands around 8.5 km/L in mixed driving and drops further the moment you're working it in sand. The 81-litre tank buys you range, but on a normal Dubai week of city driving and a desert day you'll fill up more often than you would in a sedan. Petrol is cheap here, so it's not ruinous, but go in expecting a thirsty car rather than a frugal one.
The other costs are the standard Dubai ones. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are billed to you, so mind the gantries and the cameras. We include 250 km a day, with extra kilometres at 2 AED each, which covers a desert run and the drive home without trouble.

Spend the money and this is what you get back. The 285 hp Pentastar drives all four wheels through a genuine low-range transfer case, and 246 to 274 mm of clearance means rock steps, ruts and soft sand barely register. Out at the Hatta pools track or the dunes past Al Qudra, the Wrangler climbs and crawls where a crossover quietly bogs down. This is a real 4x4, not a soft-roader wearing the look.
A word the desk always passes on: the car is more capable than most drivers. If sand is new to you, stay on graded tracks, air down before you go in, and never head out solo. The Wrangler will carry you through far more than you'd expect, but it still needs a driver who knows when to ease off.
The roof and doors come off, and that's the reason most people book it over a normal SUV. On a mild evening it's genuinely good fun, the sort of drive no crossover gives you. Be honest with yourself about timing, though. From May through September the open-air idea sounds better than it feels, because sitting in 45-degree sun stops being a pleasure within minutes. For a summer rental, take the hard top if it's offered. It insulates far better than canvas and keeps the cabin cooler, and the AC, which pulls hard once running, has a much easier job with a solid roof overhead. Run the fans high for a few minutes before you expect a hot cabin to settle.
On Sheikh Zayed Road the Wrangler is fine rather than enjoyable. It'll cruise at 120 happily enough, but the square body catches crosswind, the steering feels vague at speed, and wind noise around the seals builds the faster you go. A phone call up there with the soft top means raising your voice. That's the cost of a vehicle designed to be taken apart.
Around town the four-door's 4785 mm length sounds awkward, but the high seat and big glass make Marina ramps and tight bays easier than the numbers suggest. The clearance that helps off-road also shrugs off Dubai's tallest speed bumps. Standard rules apply: belts in every seat, and a child seat for under-fours we can fit on request. It rents from 18.
The four-door's boot is the practical surprise of the range. There's room behind the rear seats for a couple of large cases and soft bags on an airport pickup, and folding the seats opens up plenty for camping gear or a cooler on a desert weekend. It's a real five-seater, not a two-seater with a token bench.
Rent the 2021 Wrangler, four-door, if the trip itself is the reason you're booking: Hatta, the dunes, or an open-top cruise on a cool evening, and you're fine paying for fuel to get the capability. It does those things like nothing else at this price, and you can book it from 18. Skip it if your week is commuting and errands, because a crossover will be quieter, cheaper to fuel and easier to park, and you simply won't touch the part that makes the Jeep worth it.
