The Jaguar E-Pace 2020 is the smaller, cheaper way into the Jaguar SUV badge, a size down from the F-Pace and priced closer to what a mainstream premium crossover costs. It's a five-seat compact SUV, all-wheel drive, a nine-speed automatic, finished in black, and we get it to your hotel, villa or terminal within one to two hours of booking. Where the F-Pace sells you a bigger cabin and a longer boot, the E-Pace sells you the same grille and much of the same drive character in a car that's easier to park for a week in Dubai. This page settles whether that trade actually pays off, or whether the smaller badge costs you more room than it saves you in rate.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged Ingenium four making 300 PS, close to 296 hp, and 400 Nm of torque, sent through a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. That's genuinely quick for a compact SUV: 0-100 km/h comes up in about 6.4 seconds, quicker in a straight line than the bigger F-Pace's base four-cylinder, and it carries that pace with the light, alert steering Jaguar tunes into all of its SUVs. On Sheikh Zayed Road it pulls into a gap without drama and settles into a relaxed, quiet cruise once you're past 120.
The nine-speed gearbox is the one thing that occasionally gives the game away. It hunts for the right ratio in stop-start city traffic more than the F-Pace's eight-speed does, so pulling away from a light isn't always instant. Once rolling, though, the E-Pace is the more eager of the two Jaguars to drive, and for someone who wants the badge and actually enjoys a Friday morning run out of the city, that counts for something.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol (P300) |
| Power | 300 PS / around 296 hp |
| Torque | 400 Nm |
| 0-100 km/h | 6.4 seconds |
| Transmission | 9-speed automatic |
| Drive | All-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | 577 litres (up to 1,234 litres with rear seats folded) |
| Fuel economy | Around 8 L/100km combined |
| Fuel tank | 69 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,395 x 1,984 x 1,649 mm |
| Ground clearance | Around 210 mm |
| Colour | Black |
At 4,395 mm long, the E-Pace is nearly 350 mm shorter than the F-Pace, and that shows up most in a multi-storey car park or a tight Marina ramp, where it turns and slots into a bay with none of the F-Pace's extra length to think about. The trade sits in the back seat and the boot. Two adults fit behind a tall driver without complaint, but knee room tightens fast for a third person, and this is a car built for two adults and a couple of kids, not four grown adults for a week.
The boot holds 577 litres with the seats up, enough for one large case and a couple of soft bags without stacking anything on top, and folding the rear seats opens it to 1,234 litres for a bigger single load. That's a genuine step down from the F-Pace's 755 litres, so if the week involves four passengers with full-size airport luggage, this isn't the Jaguar for that job. For two people and normal luggage, it's more than enough.
Fuel economy on the P300 sits around 8 L/100km on the combined cycle, and real Dubai driving with the AC working through a hot afternoon will push past that, so plan for it rather than the brochure figure. The 69-litre tank still covers a solid stretch of city driving and the odd highway run before you need to stop.
The smaller cabin is actually an advantage in summer. It pulls down from a baking 45-degree parked interior faster than the bigger F-Pace does, simply because there's less air to cool. Front vents do the heavy lifting and rear passengers get their own vents rather than waiting for cold air to reach the back seat. On the worst afternoons, crack a window for a few seconds before you climb back in rather than trapping the heat inside. Ground clearance of around 210 mm handles mall ramps and speed bumps without a scrape, but this is a road-tuned all-wheel-drive system, not a Hatta or dune vehicle, so keep it on tarmac and graded tracks. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility, as with any car on our fleet.
Rent the Jaguar E-Pace 2020 if you want the badge and the drive feel without the size or the running cost of a full-size SUV, and your week is two people, maybe a couple of kids, doing city driving, mall runs and the occasional highway trip. It parks easier than the F-Pace, it's quicker off the line, and the smaller cabin actually cools down faster on a hot afternoon.
Look elsewhere if you're a family of four with full-size luggage or you need real rear-seat space for adults on a regular basis. The F-Pace gives you both for not much more, and a Range Rover Evoque or a BMW X1 sit in the same size class if you want to compare before you book. Go in with the terms clear. As a luxury SUV this rents against a refundable deposit confirmed at booking, so it isn't the no-deposit option. Your allowance is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for each extra kilometre, and you need to be 25 to take the keys.
