We rent it from 18 where most of the market makes you wait until 21, and that alone is the reason a lot of younger renters end up in this car. It's the budget way into a big, comfortable four-door, and it earns its keep on airport runs and longer drives where a small car would feel cramped. The trade-off is a relaxed engine and low clearance, covered below.

What it's good at: space and the long haul

The J7 is a 4772 mm sedan with a long 2760 mm wheelbase, so the back seat is the headline. Three adults fit across it without elbows clashing, and the legroom is the kind you normally pay a class up for. Pick up four people from DXB or DWC with their cases and nobody's folded into a corner. For a group splitting the cost of a week's car, that combination of room and a low rate is hard to beat.

It seats five, drives the front wheels, and runs a 1.5-litre turbo making 150 hp through a CVT automatic. The character is calm. It pulls away gently, cruises quietly, and the CVT keeps things smooth rather than sporty. On a long highway run that's a strength, not a weakness. You won't win traffic-light races, but you'll arrive relaxed.

Boot and packing for the trip

The trunk is large and well shaped, the strongest part of the car for anyone arriving with luggage. With the seats up it takes two large 23 kg suitcases plus a couple of smaller bags comfortably, which is a real airport-run boot rather than a token one. Drop the rear seats and it opens right up for bulky gear or a big shop. For most renters that means a fill lasts the best part of a week of normal city use, and you can do a couple of airport runs without thinking about the gauge.

Two costs fall to you rather than us. Salik tolls are charged as you drive through the gantries, and any RTA fines during your rental are passed on. The catch is underneath. At 120 mm the J7 rides low, so Dubai's speed bumps and the steeper mall and Marina ramps want a gentle approach. Take them slowly and at an angle and you're fine all week. Rush them and you'll hear the floor. Parking is the easy part: at 1820 mm wide with light steering, it slots into tight bays despite its length, and it's a tarmac car, so steer clear of soft sand.

Who should rent it

Rent the J7 2024 if you're after the cheapest route into a genuinely big sedan, especially if you're under 21 and stuck for options, or if airport runs and long drives with a full car are your main use. The space and the boot are the reason to book it, and the price makes them easy to justify.

Skip it if you want quick acceleration or you'll be crossing rough, unpaved ground often, where the low clearance and gentle CVT will wear thin. If you'd rather have the newer cabin and the slightly more refined feel, look at the 2026 J7 instead. But for raw space at the bottom of the price ladder, the 2024 car still does the job that matters.
