The JAC J7 2023 is a sedan most renters have never sat in, and on a one-week booking that unfamiliarity is exactly why it's worth a look. The worries that come with a new Chinese brand, resale and long-term reliability, never touch the person renting it for seven days, and what's left is a big, well-equipped sedan at a price that undercuts the usual names. We bring it to your door in Dubai inside one to two hours. Here's the argument: if you want maximum cabin and a quiet highway cruiser for not much money, the J7 delivers more car than its rate suggests. If you measure a sedan by badge or outright pace, look elsewhere, and we'll say why.
The J7 runs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder through a CVT automatic to the front wheels, making 150 horsepower. The tuning is all about ease. Around town and at airport-run speeds it's smooth and quiet, and the CVT keeps things calm in the stop-and-go traffic where a manual would have you working the pedals constantly.
Ask it for a hard highway overtake and the character shows. The CVT lets the revs climb and the engine drones while the speed catches up a beat later. It cruises happily at E11 limits and the cabin stays settled at 120, but it's a comfortable mile-eater rather than a sprinter. Plan your overtakes a moment earlier and it never feels lacking. For a daily commute, the school route and the run out to DXB or DWC, that relaxed nature is a feature, not a flaw.
This is where the J7 earns its keep. At 4,772 mm long with a long wheelbase, it's a genuinely big sedan for the money, and the rear seat shows it. Two adults sit behind two adults without anyone bracing against a front seatback. For a family doing mall runs and pickups, or a group splitting a weekly rental, that room is the reason to book it.
The kit is generous for the class too. A large central touchscreen, a digital driver display, keyless start and decent front seats come as standard, which is more than you expect at this rate. None of it makes the J7 a premium car, but the cabin doesn't feel like a penalty box on a long Sheikh Zayed Road slog.

The fastback shape hides a deep 520-litre boot, and the opening swallows real luggage. Two large hard cases plus a couple of cabin bags go in without a fight, which clears what most economy sedans and any hatchback in this price band manage. For a DXB or DWC airport pickup with a family's worth of suitcases, that capacity matters more than any other number here.
Fold the rear seats and the load space stretches toward 1,510 litres, so an occasional flat-pack or bike run is on the table. If your week involves a lot of luggage, the J7 is the budget pick that won't have you playing boot-Tetris in a car park.
A turbo sedan parked in 45-degree sun gets brutally hot inside, and the J7 is no different. Its air conditioning is conventional but strong, pulling a baking cabin down to bearable within a few minutes of driving with the fan up. Rear passengers get vents, which on a five-seater carrying kids in the back is the detail that decides comfort on a July afternoon. Start it, crank the fan, give it a minute before you expect relief, and it copes with a Dubai summer fine.
Parking is easy for a car this long. At 1,820 mm wide it slots into standard mall and tower bays without drama, the turning circle is friendly for U-turns, and a reversing camera takes the guesswork out of tight multi-storey spots. The 120 mm ground clearance is on the low side, so take the steepest mall ramps and aggressive speed bumps at an angle and you'll avoid scraping.
City economy of 10 to 10.5 km/L is fair rather than frugal for a turbo sedan, and that's the realistic figure in Dubai stop-and-go heat, not a hopeful brochure number. With a 55-litre tank the combined range touches about 743 km, though hard city driving with the AC working lands you nearer the lower end. In practice one fill covers most of a normal week, and you'll likely refuel once on a busy one. Petrol is cheap here, so the J7's middling economy costs less than it would almost anywhere else.
One reminder that catches renters out: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run up during your rental pass to you, not us. Belts are mandatory in every seat, and a child seat is required for under-fours.
Book the J7 if you want the most sedan, the roomiest back seat and a big boot for a low weekly rate, and your week is mostly city miles, airport runs and the school route. For a family on a budget or a group splitting costs, the space-per-dirham is hard to beat, and the unfamiliar badge costs you nothing over seven days.
Pass on it if a known name, resale-grade build feel or eager highway pace are what you're after. If you spend your week hammering the E11 or want the reassurance of a badge everyone knows, a Corolla or Elantra is worth the extra rate. For everyone else who needs a roomy, comfortable, cheap car that quietly does the job, the J7 is the smart-money sedan.
