Want a sedan with real back-seat and boot space but don't want your cash tied up in a deposit? The JAC J7 2023 is our answer to that, and we rent it across Dubai with the no-deposit option, so the car arrives without a chunk of your money held hostage on a card. It's a long fastback sedan that costs very little to put on the road for a week, and that's the whole case for it. If your week is mostly commuting, errands and the odd airport run, the J7 gives you more cabin and cargo than its rate suggests. This page is about whether that trade, plenty of space for not much money, fits how you actually drive here.
The J7 is a value-brand sedan, and we'll be straight about that up front. The badge doesn't carry the resale story or the dealer network of a Corolla or an Elantra. What it does carry is room. At 4,772 mm long with a 2,760 mm wheelbase, this is a genuinely big car for the money, and the back seat shows it. Two adults sit behind two adults without anyone bracing against the front seatback. For a family doing mall runs and school pickups, or a small group splitting a weekly rental, that space is the reason to book it.
It's well kitted for the class, too. A large central touchscreen, a digital driver display, keyless start and decent front seats come as standard on the J7, which is more than you expect at this rate. None of that makes it a premium car, but it means the cabin doesn't feel like a penalty box on a long Sheikh Zayed Road slog.
This is where the J7 earns its keep. The fastback shape hides a deep 540-litre boot, and that opening swallows real luggage. Two large hard cases plus a couple of cabin bags go in without a fight, which is more than most economy sedans manage and well clear of what a hatchback in this price band offers. For a DXB or DWC airport pickup with a family's worth of suitcases, that matters more than any other number on the spec sheet.
Fold the rear seats and the load space stretches toward 1,650 litres, so the occasional flat-pack or bike run is on the table. If your week involves a lot of luggage, the J7 is the budget pick that won't make you play boot-Tetris in a car park.
Summer is the honest test of any rental here, and a turbo sedan parked in 45-degree sun gets brutally hot inside. The J7's air conditioning is conventional but strong, and it pulls a baking cabin down to bearable within a few minutes of driving with the fan up. Rear passengers get vents, which on a five-seater carrying kids in the back is the detail that decides comfort on a July afternoon. Start it, crank the fan, give it a minute or two before you expect relief, and it copes with a Dubai summer fine.
On the road the 1.5-litre turbo and CVT gearbox are tuned for ease, not pace. Around town and at airport-run speeds the J7 is smooth and quiet, and the CVT keeps things calm in stop-and-go traffic where a manual would have you working the pedals. Push it hard for a highway overtake and the gearbox drones as the revs climb before the speed catches up. It cruises happily at E11 limits, but it's a relaxed cruiser, not a quick one. Plan your overtakes a beat earlier and it's no bother.
Parking is easy. At 1,820 mm wide it slots into standard mall and tower bays without drama, the turning circle is friendly for U-turns, and the 120 mm ground clearance clears speed bumps and most mall ramps as long as you take the steep ones at an angle. A reversing camera takes the guesswork out of tight multi-storey spots.

City economy of 10 to 10.5 km/L is fair rather than frugal for a turbo sedan, and that's the realistic figure in Dubai stop-and-go, not a hopeful brochure number. With a 55-litre tank you've got a usable range that touches 743 km combined, though hard city driving in the heat with the AC working will land you nearer the lower end. In practice a single fill covers most of a normal week's commuting, and you'll likely refuel once on a busy week. Petrol is cheap here, so the J7's middling economy costs less than it would almost anywhere else.
One reminder on running costs that catches renters out: Salik tolls and any RTA fines run up during your rental pass to you, not us. The gates are automatic, so factor a few dirhams per crossing if your route crosses Sheikh Zayed Road. Belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.
Book the J7 if you want the most sedan, the most back seat and the biggest boot you can get for a rock-bottom weekly rate, and you're driving mostly city miles, airport runs and the school route. For a family on a budget or a group splitting costs, the space-per-dirham here is hard to beat, and the no-deposit option keeps your card clear.
Pass on it if badge familiarity, strong resale-grade build feel or eager highway pace are what you're after. If you spend your week hammering the E11 or you want the reassurance of a name everyone knows, a Corolla or Elantra is worth the extra rate. For everyone else who just needs a roomy, comfortable, cheap car that does the job, the J7 is the smart-money sedan.
