Park a coupe-crossover next to the usual boxes in any Marina car park and people look twice. The Infiniti QX55 2023 is the one that earns the glance, and we rent it in Dubai with the no-deposit option, so you can drive away on basic coverage without a large hold sitting on your card. The swooping roofline and the bold mesh grille give it a shape almost nothing else in this price bracket carries. That look is the whole reason to pick it. Before you book, decide one thing: are you renting for the style and the feel, or do you actually need a roomy, practical family SUV? Because on those two questions the QX55 lands on opposite sides.
This is a five-seat AWD SUV built on the bones of the more sensible QX50, then given a fastback roof and sharper sheet metal. The 2.0-litre turbo four makes 268 horsepower through a CVT, sent to all four wheels. It moves with real urgency, 0 to 100 km/h in the low six-second range, and it cruises Sheikh Zayed Road without strain. But the engine isn't the point. People rent the QX55 because it photographs well, sits low and wide, and feels like a designer object rather than a tool. If that matters to you, nothing in this segment for the money matches it.
| Spec | Figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | 2.0L turbo four-cylinder |
| Power | 268 hp |
| Transmission | CVT automatic |
| Drivetrain | All-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Fuel economy | approx 9.4 L/100km combined |
| Fuel tank | approx 60 L |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4731 x 1903 x 1623 mm |
| Ground clearance | approx 229 mm |
| Boot (behind rear seats) | approx 760 L |
| Boot (rear seats folded) | approx 1530 L |
The numbers in that table flatter the QX55 until you reach the part the roofline touches, which brings us to the honest catch.
Here's where the style charges its fee. That dropping rear roof eats into two things a renter notices fast: rear headroom and boot height. The 760-litre boot figure sounds generous, but it's a shallow, sloped space. Two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags go in fine. Stack three hard cases tall and the cargo cover won't sit, or you lose rear visibility. For a DXB or DWC airport run with a full family of luggage, measure your cases against the load height, don't trust the headline volume.
Rear passengers feel it too. Legroom back there is genuinely good, close to 39 inches, so knees are fine. It's the head that suffers. Tall adults sitting behind tall adults will brush the headliner on the QX55, especially with the panoramic glass. Two kids ride happily for a week of mall runs and school drops. A third row of adults on a Hatta weekend will start asking to swap seats.
If space is your actual priority, the boxier QX50 gives you the same platform with a proper roof and a bigger, squarer boot. Or step to a roomier rival in the class. The QX55 is for the buyer who'll trade some practicality for the look, not the one who needs every cubic metre.
Cabin cooling is the first real-world test in a Dubai summer, and the QX55 passes it. Park it in the open at 45 degrees and the AC pulls the front cabin down to comfortable inside a few minutes, helped by the lower roof meaning less air volume to chill. There are rear vents for back-seat passengers, which matters with kids in the second row. It's a leather-trimmed Infiniti interior, so the materials don't bake unbearably the way a budget car's plastics do.
On the road it's relaxed. The AWD and 268 horsepower make E11 overtaking effortless, and the ride stays settled at highway speed where smaller crossovers get nervous. Around 229 mm of ground clearance clears Dubai's speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping the nose, and parking a vehicle this size in Marina or a mall bay is straightforward, helped by the camera. It's wide, though, so tight multi-storey bays need a moment's care.
On fuel, expect roughly 9 to 10 litres per 100 km in mixed Dubai driving, more if you sit in Business Bay traffic with the AC working hard. With the 60-litre tank that's comfortably over 500 km between fills, so a week of city errands plus a couple of highway runs won't have you hunting petrol stations.
Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so keep an eye on speed limits and lane discipline on the E11. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat by law, worth sorting before you collect the car. We deliver across Dubai within one to two hours, the daily rate includes 250 km with extra kilometres charged after, and we accept everything from cards and cash to Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Rent the QX55 if you want a premium small SUV with genuine character: a couple or a small family who'll spend the week on city roads and highway cruising, who care that the car looks special pulled up outside dinner, and who can live with a sloped boot and tighter rear headroom. For that buyer it's one of the most distinctive things you can drive for the money in Dubai. If you're carrying four adults and a full set of airport cases, or you want maximum cargo and back-seat space, skip it and take the boxier QX50 or a more upright family SUV. The QX55 sells the look first. Buy the look, and it delivers.
