If your week is solo or two-up and the car is mostly for you, the Q60 earns its keep. If you're shuttling three or four people daily, book the Q50 and spend the difference on something else.

The engine, and which one to want

The Q60 is offered with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6, and that's the version to hold out for. In its stronger Red Sport tune it makes around 400 horsepower, and the gap from the standard 300-horsepower version is the difference between a handsome coupe and a quick one. On the Hatta road or an evening run out past the dunes to nowhere in particular, the 400-horsepower car pulls hard from low revs and never feels short of pace.

Drive goes through a seven-speed automatic to the rear wheels, with all-wheel drive on some cars. Rear-drive is fine for everything you'll do here. All-wheel drive adds a little composure if a summer downpour catches you on the highway, but it isn't the reason to choose this car.

Living with the coupe for a week

The front seats are the good news. They're wide, supportive and comfortable for a long day, so the airport run from DXB or a cruise down to Abu Dhabi never feels like a sports-car compromise. Two people up front have nothing to complain about.

Behind them, manage your expectations. The rear seats suit a child, a coat and a couple of soft bags, and not much more. Q60 versus the pricier coupes

Here's where the Q60 quietly wins. It gives you genuine coupe drama, a strong V6 and a premium Infiniti cabin for a good deal less than the German two-doors it's parked next to. If you want the look and the punch without the badge premium, this is the smart book.

The flip side is honest. Interior tech and material finish trail the newest rivals, and the Q60 is a discontinued model now, so it's an older design even when the car itself is clean. None of that shows from the driver's seat on a Dubai weekend. It does mean you're choosing character and value over the latest screens.
