If you want a midsize sedan that looks like it costs more than it does, the Hyundai Sonata 2022 is one of the easier rentals to recommend in Dubai, and we hand it over from age 18 when most of the market won't rent a car this size until you're 21. The draw here is feel-for-money. The coupe-style roofline, the wide stance and the loaded cabin read closer to a near-luxury sedan than a budget booking, yet it sits a clear step under a Camry or Accord on the desk. This page is about who that trade actually suits, and who should size differently.
The Sonata's whole pitch is presence. The 2022 car carries the low, sloped roofline and the full-width front light bar, so it photographs and arrives looking expensive. Inside, you get a long dash, soft-touch surfaces in the right places, and a back seat that genuinely fits three adults thanks to the 2,840 mm wheelbase. For airport pickups and client runs, it shows up better than its rental price suggests.
That's the honest core of the argument. A Camry or Accord will feel a touch more polished in the small details and hold value as the safe default, but you pay for that reputation. The Sonata gives you most of the space and a more striking shape for less, and for a week in Dubai that's often the better deal.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder making 150 hp, driving the front wheels through a six-speed automatic. Be honest about what that means: 0 to 100 takes around 10.6 seconds, which is fine, not quick. On Sheikh Zayed Road the Sonata cruises happily and overtakes with a planned run-up, but floor it for a fast merge and the engine gets vocal without much shove. This is a relaxed highway car, not a fast one.
Ride comfort is where it earns its keep. The long wheelbase soaks up expansion joints and rough patches on the E11, and it stays settled and quiet at a steady 120. For DXB or DWC runs with luggage and passengers, it's a calm, easy thing to drive a long distance. If you want a sedan that feels eager rather than smooth, the 1.6-litre turbo cars or a sportier rival fit better, but for most renters the comfort tuning is the right call.

The boot is large for the class, and that matters most at the airport. Two big hard cases plus a couple of cabin bags go in without a fight, and the 60/40 rear seats fold if someone shows up with more than they admitted to on the phone. For a family of four flying in with a week's worth of luggage, the Sonata handles it where a smaller sedan would have you stacking cases on the back seat.
On fuel, expect somewhere around 8 litres per 100 km in mixed Dubai driving, more if your week is mostly short city hops in traffic, less on long highway stretches. With the 60-litre tank that's comfortably 600-plus kilometres between fills, so on a normal week of errands and an airport run or two you'll fill up once. The booking includes 250 km a day, with extra distance at 1 AED per km, which is plenty for city use and easily covers a day trip.
Cabin cooling is the first thing renters ask about in summer, and the Sonata copes well. The cabin is big, so a car baked at 45 degrees takes a minute or two of strong front-vent airflow to come down, but the AC has the capacity for it, and rear passengers get their own vents on the back of the console. Park in shade where you can and it's a non-issue.
A few Dubai facts to keep straight. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, so every gate you pass through the week is yours to settle, and any RTA fines pass to you as well. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back. As for parking, the Sonata is 4.9 metres long, which is normal midsize territory, so it slots into standard mall and tower bays fine, but it's longer than a compact and you'll feel that in a tight multi-storey or a wedged Marina bay. Reversing camera and sensors take the stress out of it.
Rent the Sonata if you want a roomy, good-looking sedan for highway miles, airport runs and showing up well, without paying the Camry premium. It's the value play in the segment, and for two adults or a family of four with luggage it's a comfortable, sensible week. Pick a Camry or Accord instead if resale-grade polish and the safe-default badge matter more to you than getting more car for the price, and if your trip is mostly solo city driving with no luggage to haul, a smaller sedan will cost less to rent and park more easily. For everyone in between, the Sonata is the smart booking.
