We deliver the Hyundai Sonata 2020 across Dubai with payment kept flexible and settled when the car reaches you, so you can book without sorting money out in advance. This is the wide, low DN8-generation sedan with the dramatic front end, and for daily Dubai driving it makes a sensible case. The 2.0-litre Sonata is comfort-led rather than quick, but it gives a couple or a small family a roomy cabin, a genuinely big boot and a calm cruise on the highway. The point of this page is simple: who the Sonata suits, where it shows its limits, and when you'd be better off in something smaller or taller.
The Sonata 2020 runs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder making 150 horsepower, paired to an automatic gearbox driving the front wheels. That's a relaxed setup, not a sporty one. Pull away from the lights and it moves cleanly enough for traffic, but ask for a hard overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road and you'll feel it work for the speed rather than leap. For the way most people drive in the city, that's fine. You sit low, the steering is light, and at a steady 100 to 120 the cabin stays quiet.
The styling writes a cheque the engine doesn't try to cash, and that's worth knowing going in. If you want a sedan that feels brisk, this isn't it. If you want one that looks sharp and rides smooth, it lands well.

Five seats, and unlike a lot of cars wearing a coupe-style roofline, the Sonata keeps real room in the back. Two adults sit comfortably behind two more, and a third in the middle works for shorter hops. The car is nearly 4.9 metres long, so that space is honestly there.
The boot is where this Sonata earns its keep for airport runs. It swallows two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags without a fight, which is the difference between a clean DXB or DWC pickup and luggage riding on someone's lap. For a family heading off for a week, that boot is the reason to pick this over a smaller sedan.
Cabin materials are mid-grade, and I'd rather say so than oversell it. The design looks more expensive than the plastics feel up close. It's well screwed together and comfortable, just not plush, and at this end of the market that's the honest trade.
When you've parked in the open and the cabin is sitting at 45 outside, the first thing you want is cold air, fast. The Sonata's AC pulls a hot cabin down at a steady pace, helped by rear vents so passengers in the back aren't left to suffer while the front cools first. It's a big glass area, so give it a couple of minutes with the fan up before you expect the back row to feel it. Once it's down, it holds temperature well on the move.
The 60-litre tank is generous for the class, and with mixed city driving landing around 10 to 11 litres per 100km, you're not chasing fuel stations. A week of school runs, mall trips and the odd airport drop should mean filling up maybe once, twice if you're doing a lot of stop-start. On a longer E11 run the figure drops nicely, since this engine is happiest at a constant cruise.
A few Dubai practicalities to keep in mind. Salik tolls run on the renter's account, and any RTA fines come back to you, so watch the gantries and the speed cameras. Child seats are required for under-fours, and we can fit one if you ask when booking.
At nearly 4.9 metres, the Sonata is a proper midsize car, and you feel that in a tight Marina multi-storey or a narrow mall bay. It's not hard to place, the visibility is decent and the turning circle is reasonable, but it's longer than a compact sedan and you park accordingly. With 135 mm of ground clearance it's on the low side, so take steep mall ramps and the sharper speed bumps gently. Nothing scrapes in normal use, but rushing a bump in this car is how you find the limit.
If most of your driving is squeezing into cramped older car parks, a smaller sedan is the easier daily tool. If you want a higher seating position and don't mind the bigger footprint, an SUV makes more sense.
Rent the Sonata 2020 if you're a couple or a small family doing everyday Dubai driving and regular airport runs, and you want a comfortable, good-looking sedan with a boot that actually holds your cases. It cruises the highway calmly and keeps everyone cool in summer, which is most of what this kind of rental is asked to do.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If your driving is mostly tight parking in older buildings, a compact sedan is less effort to thread around. And if you want a commanding view of the road or the option to load taller gear, size up to an SUV. For the brief it's built for, comfortable, roomy, value midsize motoring, the Sonata holds its own.
