The Hyundai Kona 2025 is the all-new, bigger version of the small crossover, and it fixes the one complaint people had about the older car: space. We rent it across Dubai with 250 km a day included, enough that a school run, an airport drop and a weekend trip out to Hatta all fit inside one day's allowance without you watching the odometer. This generation grew in every direction, so the back seat and the boot finally match the high-set, easy-parking feel that made the Kona popular in the first place. This page is about whether that extra room moves it from a couple's car into a genuine small-family one. Mostly, it does.
The previous Kona was a sharp-looking thing with a tight back seat. This one keeps the raised view and the punchy 1.6 turbo but adds real legroom behind and a much larger boot, which is exactly what a Dubai renter feels day to day. Two adults up front and two kids behind now travel in comfort for a week of mall runs and beach days, and three across the back works for shorter hops rather than just in theory. The cabin is cleaner and the screens are bigger, but the practical story is the space, and that's what changes the recommendation.

The 1.6 turbo with 177 hp is brisker than a small crossover needs to be, and that's a good thing in Dubai. It clears 0 to 100 in 7.9 seconds, which translates to confident merges onto the E11 and overtakes you don't have to plan. Plenty of cars at this rate run out of puff above 100. This one cruises at highway speed without working hard, and the all-wheel drive gives a planted, secure feel when a gust of sand blows across the road or a slip road is loose underfoot. It's a road car with extra grip, not a dune machine, so treat the AWD as stability insurance rather than a licence for soft sand.
The 466-litre boot is the headline. It takes two large cases plus a couple of soft bags without folding a thing, so a couple's airport pickup is roomy rather than a packing puzzle, and a small family's week of gear goes in with space to spare. Fold the rear seats and you're near 1300 litres for a flat-pack run or a bike. The honest limit is people and luggage at full load together: with the back seat full of passengers, the boot handles their bags but not four adults' worth of hard cases at once. Match the load to the trip and you'll rarely feel short, which wasn't always true of the older Kona.
At 4.35 metres it's still an easy car to place. Tight Marina towers and mall multi-storeys with their narrow bays and steep ramps are no drama, and the high seat helps you judge the corners. The clearance, around 170 mm, rides over Dubai's speed bumps and parking ramps without the scrape a low sedan gives you, while staying low enough that getting in and out is a step, not a climb. For the manoeuvres a renter actually makes, U-turns, reverse bays, mall lips, it's one of the simpler cars in its class to live with.
A crossover this size cools quickly, which works in your favour when it's been baking in a 45-degree car park. There's less cabin air to chill than in a big SUV, so the front vents bite hard within a couple of minutes and the temperature drops fast once you're moving. Rear passengers cool through the front airflow, fine for two kids on a normal trip, though a child in the back will feel it warmer than someone up front on a long, hot afternoon. Park in shade when you can and crack the windows for a few seconds before setting off to dump the worst of the heat.
Salik tolls run on the renter's account, so every gantry you pass on Sheikh Zayed Road or the bridges is billed back to you. Any RTA fines during your rental are yours as well, so keep an eye on the speed cameras. Seat belts are required in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can add to the booking.
Rent the Kona 2025 if you want the easy parking and raised view of an SUV with a quick engine and, finally, a boot and back seat that suit a small family rather than just a couple. For city errands, beach days and the occasional Hatta or airport run, the new generation is one of the most sensible things you can rent at this size.
Size up if your week is four adults with full luggage every day, or if you've got real off-road plans, in which case a Tucson gives more space and a proper 4x4 handles the sand. If it's only ever you and a partner doing short city hops, a smaller hatch is cheaper to rent for room you won't use. For the broad middle, where most rentals here actually sit, the bigger Kona hits the sweet spot, and the 250 km a day means you rarely think about mileage at all.
