Fuel cost is the whole argument for the Hyundai Elantra 2024, and in a city where a week of driving means a lot of stop-start traffic, that's the number worth booking on. We rent the Elantra 2024 across Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours and 250 km a day included before any extra-kilometre charge. The petrol four returns around 6.5 litres per 100 km, so a single tank covers most of a normal week. Our take: this is the compact sedan to pick when running cost matters more than badge or outright pace, and it suits a solo driver, a couple, or steady airport runs. The base engine is modest and the cabin plastics are honest budget, so this page is about whether that trade-off is right for you.
This is where the Elantra earns its rate. The 2.0-litre returns about 6.5 litres per 100 km combined, and on a roughly 47-litre tank that's close to 700 km between fills in mixed driving. Lean into highway cruising and you'll do better. Sit in summer crawl with the AC maxed and it climbs, like everything here does. For a typical Dubai week of errands, a couple of airport trips, and the odd longer drive, most renters fill once. That's the practical gap between this and a thirstier midsize or an SUV, and it's the main reason the Elantra punches above its price.
The 2024 Elantra is the CN7 generation, the one with the deep creases down the flanks and the full-width tail light. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre four-cylinder making 147 hp, driving the front wheels through an automatic. That's the sensible everyday Elantra, not the hot N: smooth and quiet at city speeds, happy to cruise, never quick. Off the line it's unhurried, and a full load with the AC working takes a little more edge off. For Dubai use, where you spend most of your time between traffic lights and at a 100 to 120 cruise, that suits the car fine.

The boot is the quiet strength here. At around 402 litres it beats most hatchback rivals and a good chunk of the compact-sedan field. Two large hard cases lie flat with room for a couple of soft bags on top, which makes a DXB or DWC run genuinely comfortable for two people with a week's luggage. Three large cases plus carry-ons is where it tightens, and the sedan boot opening, while wide, won't swallow a tall box the way a hatch tailgate does. The rear seats fold if you need the length.
Inside, four adults sit fine. Rear knee room beats the class average, and the fairly flat floor makes the middle seat usable for a short hop. The materials give away the price: hard plastics on the lower doors and dash, a few scratchy panels. It looks smart at a glance and feels ordinary up close, which is fair for what this car is.
Park anything outside in a Dubai July and the cabin hits oven temperature. The Elantra's AC is a strong point. The front vents pull a parked cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes, and there are rear vents to keep back-seat passengers happy on longer runs, which not every car in this bracket offers. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst of the heat and it copes even at 45 degrees.
A few standing rules. Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so mind the speed cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road. Child seats are required for under-fours, and we can fit one on request.
At about 4.71 metres long the Elantra is compact enough for normal Dubai life. It slots into mall and tower bays without drama, takes Marina ramps and the tighter multi-storey corners cleanly, and the light steering makes U-turns easy. Ground clearance is 135 mm, which is fine for speed bumps at sensible speed and no more. This is a road car. Steep loading ramps and aggressively humped community bumps want a careful approach, and anything off the tarmac is off the table.
On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 it settles into a relaxed cruise and stays composed at the limit. Overtaking takes a bit of planning rather than a stab of throttle, given the modest engine, but there's enough in reserve for safe lane changes. At a steady 120 it's a calm, quiet companion, which is most of what an airport-and-errands rental needs.
Rent the Elantra 2024 if you're a solo driver, a couple, or a small family who wants a good-looking sedan with a big boot and the lowest running cost in its class for a week of city driving and airport runs. On fuel alone it pays you back across a week, and that's the case for it.
Skip it if you only ever park in the tightest old-building bays and never carry luggage, where a small hatch is simpler to thread. And size up to a midsize sedan or an SUV if you're regularly four adults with full airport cases, want stronger overtaking punch, or expect any rough ground. For everyone else, this is the smart, cheap-to-run everyday choice.
