Hyundai Elantra 2024 - start from 195 AED / day

The Hyundai Elantra 2024 is the rare compact sedan that gives back-seat passengers real legroom, and that's the reason we'd put a couple or a small family in one for a Dubai week over a tighter hatch. We rent it across the city with 250 km a day included before any extra-kilometre charge, and you can drive it from 18 rather than the 21 most desks insist on. Our take: this is a comfortable, easy, cheap-to-run sedan built for errands, commuting, and steady airport runs, not for anyone chasing pace. The 0-100 takes a relaxed 9.8 seconds, so if quick is what you're after, look elsewhere. This page is about whether comfort and space at a low rate is the right trade for your trip.

Room for people, and how it drives

The 2024 car is the CN7 generation with the sharp creases down the sides and the full-width tail light. Inside, the win is the rear bench. Knee room runs ahead of the class, the floor is fairly flat, and three across the back works for a short hop while two adults sit in genuine comfort on a long one. Up front you get a clean, modern dash with a wide screen, though the lower plastics are honest budget once your hand finds them.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre four making 147 hp through an automatic to the front wheels. It's smooth and quiet at city speeds and settles into an easy 120 cruise. Off the line it's unhurried, and a full car with the AC working takes a little more edge off, which is what that 9.8-second figure tells you. For traffic-light-to-traffic-light Dubai driving and the odd highway stretch, it's enough.

Luggage and the airport question

The boot holds around 402 litres, which is strong for a compact sedan and the practical reason this car suits airport work. Two large hard cases lie flat with room for a couple of soft bags on top, so a DXB or DWC pickup for two people with a week's luggage is comfortable rather than a game of Tetris. Three big cases plus carry-ons is where it tightens, and the sedan opening won't take a tall box the way a hatch tailgate does. Fold the rear seats and you get the length for the odd bulky item.

Fuel, and how often you'll fill up

Running cost is the other half of the case for this car. The 2.0-litre returns about 6.9 litres per 100 km combined, and on the 47-litre tank that's roughly 680 km between fills in mixed driving. Cruise the highway and you'll stretch it further. Sit in summer crawl with the AC maxed and it climbs, as everything does here. For a normal Dubai week of errands, a couple of airport trips, and a longer drive or two, most renters fill once. That generous 250 km a day we include means you're rarely watching the odometer, either.

Heat, AC and the rules you should know

Park anything outside in a Dubai July and the cabin turns to an oven, so what matters is how fast it recovers. The Elantra's AC is a genuine strength. The front vents pull a parked cabin down to comfortable within a few minutes, and there are rear vents to keep back-seat passengers happy, which not every car at this price offers. Drop the windows for the first thirty seconds to dump the worst heat and it copes at 45 degrees.

A few standing facts. Salik tolls run on your account while the car's with you, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you, so mind the cameras on Sheikh Zayed Road. Children under four need a child seat by law, and we can fit one on request.

Parking and city manoeuvring

At about 4.71 metres the Elantra is long for a compact but still easy to place. It drops into mall and tower bays without fuss, takes Marina ramps and tighter multi-storey corners cleanly, and the light steering makes U-turns painless. Ground clearance is 135 mm, fine for speed bumps taken at sensible speed and no more. This is a road car, so steep loading ramps and aggressively humped community bumps want a careful approach, and anything off the tarmac is off the table. Most cars carry a reversing camera to settle the tighter spots.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Elantra 2024 if you want a roomy, comfortable, cheap-to-run sedan for a couple or small family doing city driving and airport runs, and you value rear-seat space and a big boot over outright pace. The legroom and the luggage room are what set it apart from a hatch at a similar rate, and the fuel bill stays low across a week.

Skip it if you only thread the tightest old-building bays and never carry luggage, where a small hatch is simpler. And size up to a midsize sedan or an SUV if you're regularly four adults with full airport cases, want stronger overtaking punch, or expect any rough ground. For everyone in between, this is the sensible, comfortable everyday pick.
