The size is the other reason. At 4,680 mm long and 1,825 mm wide, it is a proper sedan rather than a hatchback stretched to look like one, so it reads as a step up without booking like a bigger, pricier car. That middle position, bigger than an economy hatch, cheaper than a mid-size SUV, is why it covers such a wide spread of requests. A single business traveller books it for the same reason a family of four does: it does not force a compromise either way.

What the boot and back seat actually hold

The 402-litre boot takes two full-size suitcases lying flat with a laptop bag stacked on top, which is enough for a fortnight away or a business trip with a spare set of clothes for meetings. Fold the rear seats down and a flat-pack or a stack of boxes from a move goes in without trouble.

The back seat is where the Elantra quietly does better than its price suggests. Fuel is where the Elantra pays for itself over a longer booking. The rental includes 250 km a day, with anything beyond that billed at AED 0.5 per kilometre, a limit a daily office run or school pickup rarely comes close to. A weekend out to Al Ain or Hatta and back can push past it, and the extra kilometres cost little enough not to change the plan. Heat is the part every renter asks about eventually, so it is worth being straight about it. Leave the Elantra parked at midday in August and the cabin bakes like any dark-dashed sedan does. The front vents pull that heat down fast once the engine and AC are running, so the worst of it is over inside the first minute or so of driving. Rear passengers get their own vents on this generation too, which matters when the back seat described above is actually carrying people on a hot afternoon. It is a plain, functional system rather than a climate feature worth boasting about, and for a car at this rate that is the right trade.
