If a chunk of your Dubai driving is squeezing into multi-storey bays and threading Marina U-turns, the Hyundai Elantra 2020 is one of the easiest sedans we hand over. We deliver it across the city in one to two hours, and it comes with 250 km a day and no extra-kilometre charge, so a busy week of short city hops never costs you more than the rate. This is the older-generation Elantra, and that's its appeal: a comfortable, simple-to-place sedan for less than a newer car. The question this page settles is whether easy and economical is enough for your week, and for a lot of renters here it is.
At a hair over 4.6 metres long the Elantra is compact enough for Dubai's tighter spots without feeling small inside. It slots into standard and tight multi-storey bays without the nervous shuffling a bigger sedan needs, the steering is light around town, and the turning circle copes with mall-ramp U-turns. For someone newly driving here, it's a forgiving car to learn the city in. The 2020's ground clearance is modest, so take the steeper community speed bumps and a few mall-ramp lips gently, but you won't be scraping on anything normal.

Dubai summers sit in the mid to high 40s, and a car left in the open turns into an oven by midday. The Elantra's AC is conventional but it works. The front vents push hard, and the cabin is modest enough in volume that it comes down to bearable within a few minutes of driving, faster if you crack the windows for the first stretch to let the trapped heat out. This generation is light on rear outlets, so back-seat passengers rely on airflow from the front. For two up front it's a non-issue. With kids in the back on a long afternoon, angle the centre vents rearward and they'll be fine.
The 2.0-litre is the unflashy reason this car books out to long-stay renters. It returns somewhere around 6.5 to 7 litres per 100 km in mixed Dubai driving, more in constant AC and heavy traffic. On the 50-litre tank that's most of a week of city running between fills. A commuter doing the usual city-and-highway mix tends to fill up about once a week, sometimes less. Fuel is cheap here, the tank is a sensible size, and you won't be planning your days around petrol stations.
The boot is around 458 litres, which is a real strength. It swallows two large checked cases plus a couple of soft bags without any luggage Tetris, and the low load lip makes loading easy after a flight. A family of four landing at DXB with a week of bags fits, and runs out to DWC are just as simple. If you're routinely carrying four big cases and a fifth passenger, you're at the edge of what the boot does comfortably, and that's the cue to look at something larger.
Out on the E11 the 150 hp feels adequate rather than quick. There's enough to merge and overtake confidently at highway speed, and the car settles into a relaxed cruise without straining. It isn't built to thrill, but for the daily run between Dubai and the northern emirates, or a calm motorway stretch, it does the job without fuss.
A few rental basics that sit with you, not us: Salik tolls are billed to the renter as you pass each gantry, and RTA fines during your hire pass to you, so watch the limits along Sheikh Zayed Road, which change quickly. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, and children under four need a proper child seat, which we can fit on request.
Rent the Elantra 2020 if you want the cheapest comfortable sedan that still feels like a real car: an easy commuter for a monthly stay, a simple airport runabout, or a roomy family car where price beats polish. It's economical, genuinely easy to park, and it carries luggage properly.
Step up to a newer Elantra if a modern cabin and the latest screen matter to you, because this generation's interior is plainer and shows its age. And if you're regularly four adults deep on long highway hauls, a midsize sedan gives more shoulder room and a calmer cruise. For value-first renters who want fuss-free city transport, this is the one we'd hand you the keys to.
