Most rental desks in Dubai won't hand a sedan to anyone under 21. We rent the Hyundai Accent 2024 from 18, which makes this fresh compact sedan one of the easier first cars to book here. It's a clean, economical five-seater that does the daily Dubai work without drama: the commute, the mall run, the airport pickup. The argument for this year is simple. You get the current cabin and the newer hardware at an economy rate, and it's just as happy with a younger driver behind the wheel as a seasoned one. This page is about whether the Accent fits your week, or whether you should size up.
The 2024 Accent runs a 1.6-litre four-cylinder making 130 hp, sent through an automatic gearbox to the front wheels. That's well matched to how most people actually drive in Dubai. It pulls away cleanly at lights, settles into a 100 to 120 cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road, and slots into traffic without you reading the road three cars ahead. It isn't fast, and you feel that when you floor it to clear a slow truck on the E11. For a commuter and airport car, though, the engine does everything the job asks. The light steering and front-drive layout make it an easy car to thread through traffic, which is most of what Dubai driving really is.
This is the system that matters most in a Dubai rental, so we'll be straight about it. Park the Accent in open sun and the cabin gets brutally hot by midday, like any car here. The air conditioning is single-zone, but it's effective, and the compact cabin helps: there's less air to chill than in a big SUV, so the front vents pull a baking interior down to comfortable within a few minutes of driving. There are no rear vents at this level, so back-seat passengers wait a touch longer on the hottest days, though it's a minor gripe once you're moving. No ventilated seats, no twin-zone climate. That isn't what this car is, and at the rate it's a fair trade.

The Accent's trunk holds about 388 litres in a square, usable shape, and that's where it pulls ahead of most cars in its bracket. In real terms that's two large suitcases plus a couple of cabin bags, or three medium cases packed thoughtfully. For a couple or a small family landing at DXB or DWC with a week of luggage, everything goes in the boot instead of stacking on a lap. Collect more than four people with full-size cases and it tightens, and that's your cue to look at a bigger sedan. For the standard airport run it's one of the easier economy cars to load.
Rear legroom is good for the class too, so two adults behind two more isn't a punishment, and the middle seat is fine for a short trip.
The Accent is frugal in the way that counts for a renter. Roughly 16 km per litre in mixed driving, paired with a 45-litre tank, gives a real-world range comfortably past 600 km. A normal Dubai week of commuting, errands and a longer hop or two usually means a single fill-up. Your rental includes 250 km a day, and the Accent's economy means you'll rarely think about the pump or the allowance. Anything over the daily limit is charged at 1 AED per extra kilometre, so on a very high-mileage week it's worth keeping a rough count.
A couple of Dubai rules sit on you as the renter. Salik tolls run on your account through the gate tags, RTA fines during the rental pass to you, and a child seat is required for under-fours. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat.
At 4.5 metres the Accent is easy to live with in town. It slots into tight multi-storey bays and the cramped spaces around the Marina, the turning circle handles U-turns cleanly, and forward visibility is good for judging gaps. The 172 mm of ground clearance clears Dubai's speed bumps and steeper mall ramps without scraping, which some lower sedans can't manage. For a newer driver still getting comfortable with the city, it's a forgiving car to park.
Rent the Accent 2024 if you want a fresh, frugal sedan for commuting and airport duty, you're carrying real luggage, and you don't want to pay for a size up you won't use. It's also one of our easier picks for drivers aged 18 to 20, who much of the market turns away. If you want sharper power, a richer cabin, and more presence on the highway, step up to an Elantra. If you're solo, on the tightest budget, and rarely carry passengers or bags, a smaller hatch will cost less and do the limited job just as well. For most people booking an economy sedan in Dubai, the Accent hits the practical middle better than anything around it.
