A week of Dubai driving adds up fast, and the Hyundai Accent 2023 is built to keep that number small. We rent it across Dubai with payment sorted on delivery, so you settle up however suits you when the keys arrive: card, cash, a wallet tap, even crypto. That flexibility is the easy part. The real reason this compact sedan books out is running cost. A 45-litre tank and an unfussy 1.6-litre engine mean you fill up rarely on a high-mileage week, and the boot swallows airport luggage that shames cars a class above. This page is about whether the Accent is the cheap-to-keep-moving car your trip actually needs.
This is where the Accent earns its keep. The 1.6-litre four-cylinder is naturally aspirated, nothing exotic, and that's the point. It sips fuel in the kind of mixed driving a Dubai week throws at you: morning crawl on Sheikh Zayed Road, a few mall runs, the odd longer hop out toward the airport.
In real conditions here, expect somewhere around 7 to 8 litres per 100km in heavy city use, dropping well under 6 once you're cruising the E11 at a steady clip. With the 45-litre tank, that translates to roughly 550 to 600km between fills on city driving, and more on the highway. For most renters that's a single fill across a week, maybe a top-up if you're commuting daily from the outer communities. Compared with thirstier sedans we hand over, the Accent quietly saves you a tank's worth of petrol over seven days.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol |
| Power | 123 hp |
| Transmission | 6-speed automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Fuel tank | 45 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4440 x 1729 x 1475 mm |
| Boot | 480 litres |
| Colour | Grey |
The numbers worth reading twice are the tank and the boot. Everything else is competent rather than remarkable, and that's fine for what this car is meant to do.
The 480-litre boot is genuinely large for an economy sedan, and it changes the airport math. Two large hard cases go in flat with room left for a couple of soft bags on top. That's a real four-person trip from DXB or DWC without anything riding on laps, which is more than most cars this size can claim. Drop the rear seats and a bulky pram or a week's worth of shopping disappears too.
Inside, five seats fit five at a push and four in comfort. Rear legroom is decent for the class, so an adult behind an adult isn't a punishment on a short run. The cabin itself is plain. Hard plastics, a sensible screen, the basics done properly and nothing that feels special. If you want soft-touch trim and a nicer drive, that's a reason to read the last section.
In a Dubai summer a parked Accent gets brutally hot, like any car here. The AC pulls a small cabin down faster than a big SUV simply because there's less air to chill, so a few minutes with the fan up and you're comfortable before you've cleared the car park. Front vents do the heavy lifting; don't expect rear vents or fancy climate zones at this level.
Size works in your favour around town. At 4.44 metres it slots into tight multi-storey bays and handles Marina ramps and U-turns without drama, and the light steering makes low-speed manoeuvring easy. A few Dubai rules pass straight to you as the renter: Salik tolls are billed to you, RTA fines land on you, and seat belts are mandatory in every seat. None of that is Accent-specific, but it's worth knowing before you book.
The 123 hp is enough, not generous. Around the city and at highway-cruise speeds it's relaxed and quiet. Ask for a hard overtake above 100km/h with four people and luggage aboard and you'll feel it working, the engine getting vocal before the speed climbs. For airport runs and daily commuting that's a non-issue. For drivers who want effortless overtaking on a long highway week, it's a limit you should know about.
Rent the Accent if your week is mileage-heavy and budget-led: the commute, the airport, the errands, four people and real luggage that has to fit. It's the cheap-to-run sedan that asks little and delivers exactly what it promises, and the big boot is the clincher over smaller hatchbacks.
Step up to an Elantra if the plain cabin and modest punch will bother you, or if you'll spend most of the week on the highway and want more space and a quieter, stronger drive. Drop to a basic budget sedan only if you're barely driving and want the lowest possible rate, because once the kilometres pile up the Accent's economy and boot earn back the difference. For the high-mileage middle, this is the one we'd hand you.
