If you want a clean automatic sedan for daily Dubai commuting without tying up a chunk of cash, the older-year Hyundai Accent 2021 is one of the easier calls on our fleet. We can hand it over at your door in Dubai with the no-deposit option, so nothing gets blocked on your card while you drive it. The case for this particular year is simple: you get a roomy compact sedan with a genuinely useful boot and frugal running costs, at the lower rate an earlier model carries. This page is about whether that trade, a slightly older car for real savings and real space, is the right one for your week.
The 2021 looks and feels close to the newer Accent years, but it sits at the value end. Same 1.6-litre engine, same 6-speed automatic, same five seats and the same long boot. What you give up is a few cosmetic and tech updates the later cars added. For a commuter or an airport car, none of that changes the drive.
So this is the year to pick when the priority is keeping the rental cheap and the boot big. If you want the freshest cabin and the latest screen, look at our 2024 or 2025 Accent pages instead. If you want the most car for the least money, stay here.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Class | Economy sedan |
| Seats | 5 |
| Engine | 1.6L four-cylinder, 123 hp |
| Transmission | 6-speed automatic |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive |
| Fuel economy | About 6.4 L/100km combined |
| Fuel tank | 45 litres |
| Boot | About 396 litres |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,440 x 1,729 x 1,475 mm |
| 0-100 km/h | About 11.3 seconds |
| Top speed | 193 km/h |
This is where the Accent earns its keep. The boot runs close to 396 litres, and the opening is wide and square rather than pinched, so it swallows luggage better than its class average. Two large hard cases plus a cabin bag go in for a DXB or DWC run with room left over. Three people with full suitcases works without anyone holding a bag on their lap.
Drop the rear seats and you get a long load floor for a flat-pack from the mall or a week's bulk shopping. For airport pickups with a family and their bags, this is the box most compact sedans in the rate can't quite tick.
The 1.6 sips fuel. Around 6.4 litres per 100km combined is realistic, and Dubai's cheap petrol makes a tank go a long way. On the 45-litre tank, a careful week of mixed city and highway driving can mean filling up once, maybe twice if you're commuting across the city every day. That low thirst is half the reason this car books out as a budget commuter.
The renter covers Salik tolls, and any RTA fines during your rental pass to you, so keep an eye on the gates and the speed limits on Sheikh Zayed Road. Seat belts are mandatory in every seat, front and back.
A 2021 Accent left in an August car park gets brutally hot, the same as anything else here. The good news is the cabin is compact and the front vents are strong, so the AC pulls it down to comfortable within a few minutes of moving rather than the long, sweaty wait you get in a big SUV. Rear passengers cool through the front vents since there are no rear air outlets, which is fine for two adults on a normal day and worth knowing if you're carrying kids in the back through peak summer. Crack the windows for the first thirty seconds and the cabin clears faster.
With 123 hp and a smooth automatic, the Accent is happy at Dubai speeds. It cruises E11 and the airport roads without fuss and has enough in reserve for a confident overtake at 100 to 120. Push it harder than that and you'll feel it's a modest 1.6, not a quick car, but it never feels strained on the daily run.
Around town it's an easy thing to live with. The car is narrow by sedan standards and the steering is light, so Marina ramps, mall multi-storey bays and tight U-turns are no drama. Parking in a standard bay takes one go, not three, which matters more on a daily rental than any spec number.
This is a budget car and it doesn't hide it. The dash is hard plastic, the base trim is simple, and you won't find soft-touch surfaces or a fancy screen. What you do get is a sensible, durable interior that's easy to clean and easy to use, with the controls where you expect them. If a basic, no-surprises cabin bothers you, you'll want to step up. If you just want a reliable automatic that does the job, it's a non-issue.
Rent the 2021 Accent if you want a cheap, frugal automatic with a big boot for commuting, errands and airport runs, especially if you're travelling with luggage and want the lower older-year rate. For most renters in this class, it's the sensible pick.
Step up to the Elantra if you want more power, a plusher cabin and longer highway comfort for regular intercity drives. Drop to a small budget sedan only if you truly need the cheapest wheels and don't care about boot space, because the Accent's cargo room is the main reason to choose it over something smaller. For a roomy, economical commuter at a value rate, this is the one to book.
