Picture a week of airport runs and supermarket loops: two large suitcases plus a cabin bag in the boot, one tank of fuel that you barely think about, and a parking spot you can actually reverse into without a three-point fight. That's the job the Honda City 2024 is built for, and we rent it across Dubai from age 18, while most of the market won't hand you a key until 21. The City is the sensible, cheap-to-run compact sedan with a boot that's genuinely big for its size. The real question this page settles is whether that's enough for your week, or whether you should size up to a bigger sedan or drop to a hatch.
| Spec | Honda City 2024 |
|---|---|
| Class / body | Economy sedan, 5 seats |
| Engine | 1.5L i-VTEC 4-cylinder petrol |
| Power | 119 hp |
| Transmission | Automatic (CVT) |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Fuel economy | 5.6 L/100km (combined, manufacturer) |
| Tank | 40 litres |
| Boot | 506 litres |
| Dimensions (L×W×H) | 4553 × 1748 × 1467 mm |
| Ground clearance | 165 mm |
| 0 to 100 km/h | About 10.2 seconds |
| Top speed | Around 190 km/h |
A 506-litre boot is large for an economy sedan, and it's the City's strongest argument. Two large hard-shell cases sit flat with room left for a cabin bag and a backpack on top, which is exactly what a DXB or DWC pickup run needs. The rear seats fold if you're collecting flat-pack furniture or a bike, though the opening isn't huge. For a couple or a small family doing airport transfers and weekly shops, the City swallows more than its compact footprint suggests.
Where it runs out is people, not luggage. Three adults across the back fit for a short hop, but for a full week with four adults and their cases, the boot fills and knee room gets tight. That's your line to size up to a larger sedan.
Honda quotes 5.6 L/100km combined. In real Dubai driving, with the AC fighting summer heat and stop-start traffic on the school run, expect closer to 6.5 to 7.5 around town, and the quoted figure is realistic only on a steady highway cruise. Even at the higher real-world rate, the 40-litre tank gives you roughly 500 to 600 km between fills. For a normal week of commuting and errands, that's one visit to the pump, maybe two if you're driving to Abu Dhabi and back. The CVT is the right call here: it keeps the small engine in its efficient band and is far less tiring than a manual would be in Sheikh Zayed Road queues.
At 4553 mm long, the City is compact enough for tight multi-storey bays and the spiral ramps at Marina and mall car parks. Reversing into a standard bay is easy, the turning circle is tidy for U-turns, and 165 mm of clearance clears speed bumps and mall ramps without scraping. This is a car you stop worrying about in traffic.
On the open road it's competent rather than quick. The 119 hp engine and CVT are happy cruising at 100 to 120 on the E11, and there's enough in reserve for a clean overtake if you plan it. Push hard for a fast merge and the CVT gets vocal as the revs climb. For airport runs and daily commuting that never matters; if you regularly cover long highway distances at speed with a full car, a bigger engine will feel less strained.
The compact cabin is an advantage when it's 45 outside. There's less air to chill, so the AC pulls a parked, baking interior down to comfortable within a few minutes of pulling away, faster than most larger cars. Front cooling is strong. Rear passengers rely mainly on the front vents, which is fine for two but worth knowing if you'll often carry people in the back through July and August. Park in shade where you can and it's a non-issue.
A few local rules apply to every rental. Salik tolls are charged to you each time you pass a gate, and any RTA speed or parking fines during your hire pass through to the renter, so keep an eye on the limits. Seat belts are required in every seat. The City's good outward visibility and small size make it one of the easier cars to live with day to day in the city.
Rent the Honda City 2024 if you're one or two people, or a small family, doing airport transfers, the daily commute, and weekly shops. It's the cheap-to-run, easy-to-park sedan with a boot bigger than the badge suggests, and from 18 it's open to younger drivers most companies turn away. Size up to a larger sedan if you'll routinely carry four adults plus luggage, or if you spend most of your week at highway speed with a full car. If boot space isn't your priority and you only ever drive in town, a hatch in the same class costs less and parks even more easily. For everyone in between, the City is the smart, low-fuss pick.
