Where the line is
Now the plain part. The Dargo is a soft-roader, a car-based crossover with clever electronics rather than a body-on-frame 4x4. There's no low-range gearbox, and soft dune sand, deep ruts and rocky climbs sit beyond what the car, or the rental cover, is built for. A Land Cruiser or Patrol will follow deflated tyres up a dune face. The Dargo will dig in and wait for a tow.
Set the trip accordingly. Graded and compacted tracks, campsite access, gravel and the rough approaches around Hatta and Al Qudra are fine. Dune bashing and proper off-road trails are not, and a recovery from soft sand lands on you, not the insurance. If the dunes are the actual point of your weekend, take a real 4WD for those days. We'd rather tell you now than at recovery time.
How it differs from the Jolion
The Jolion is Haval's city crossover: cheaper, lighter on fuel, easier in tight parking. The Dargo is a half-size up and a different character, with the stronger 2.0 turbo, the extra clearance and the squared-off styling that's most of the reason people book it. It's also thirstier, which is the honest cost of the punch and the shape.
