Gmc Acadia 2021 - start from 534 AED / day

The GMC Acadia 2021 is the rare seven-seat SUV in Dubai that doesn't cost like a full-size one to rent, and we'll have it at your door or the airport inside one to two hours. That third row is the whole reason to look at it. If you're a family of six or seven, or four adults who want room to spread out and still load the boot, this is the car that fits the people first. Our take is simple: rent the Acadia when the seat count matters more than badge or off-road ability. It's a comfortable highway and mall SUV, not a dune machine, and we'll point out where that line sits.

The third row and how many really fit

The Acadia seats seven in a 2-3-2 layout, and the way you use those seats decides whether this car is right for you. The front two are roomy and the middle row is genuinely usable for adults. The third row is the honest part of the conversation. It's fine for kids on the school run or for adults on a short hop across town, but it's tight for grown-ups on a long drive to Abu Dhabi. The smart way to think about it: seven for short trips, comfortable five or six for everything else with the back row folded for luggage.

For a Dubai family that occasionally carries grandparents, cousins, or a couple of extra kids, that flexibility is worth more than a fancier cabin in a smaller car. You're renting seats, and the Acadia has them.

Space for people and luggage at the same time

This is where the Acadia separates itself from a midsize crossover. With all three rows up there's about 360 litres behind the back seats, enough for the soft bags and a couple of small cases with a full load of passengers. When you don't need seven seats, fold the third row and you open up a deep, square load bay, with around 2,100 litres once both rear rows are down.

The practical version: five people plus a week of airport luggage from DXB or DWC fits easily with the third row folded. Seven people plus full holiday suitcases does not, and that's true of almost any seven-seater at this size. Carry the people or carry the cases, and only push for both if the trip is short.

Engine, and how it drives in Dubai

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbo four making 228 horsepower through an automatic gearbox to the front wheels. For a big-cabin SUV that's a modest engine on paper, and in practice it's adequate rather than strong. Around town it pulls away cleanly and never feels strained at city speeds. Loaded with passengers and climbing onto Sheikh Zayed Road, you'll notice the turbo working to gather pace, so plan your overtakes rather than expecting instant punch. At a steady cruise on the E11 it's quiet and settled, which is what a family wants on the long runs.

The 72-litre tank gives a useful gap between fill-ups. A turbo four in a heavy SUV isn't going to sip fuel, especially in traffic with the AC fighting the heat, so expect a tank to last several days of mixed driving rather than a full week. One station visit mid-week is realistic for a busy family.

Heat, parking and the bumps

In a Dubai summer the cabin size cuts both ways. There's a lot of air to cool when the car's been baking at 45 degrees, so give the AC a few minutes and a cracked window at first to clear the worst heat. The front and middle rows cool quickly once you're moving, and rear vents help the third row catch up, which matters when kids are sitting back there. It won't be ice-cold the second you start it, but it gets there.

At this size, parking takes a little more care than a hatch. It slots into standard mall and tower bays, but the tight older multi-storey ramps and a packed Marina car park ask for patience and a check of your mirrors. The roughly 178 mm of ground clearance clears speed bumps and mall ramps without drama. That clearance, paired with front-wheel drive, also tells you the limit: this is a road SUV. It handles tarmac, light gravel and the school-run kerb, but it's not built for soft sand or a Hatta trail. For desert weekends you'd want a proper 4x4.

A note on the running costs that fall to you: Salik tolls are charged to the renter at each gantry, RTA fines pass to you, and a child under four needs a child seat by law, which we can fit on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Acadia 2021 if you need seven seats some of the time and a big, flexible load bay the rest of the time, and you mostly drive city roads and highways. For a Dubai family that wants real space without the rate and bulk of a full-size SUV, it's a sensible, comfortable pick. Look elsewhere if your trips are full seven-up runs to other emirates, where the third row gets cramped, or if you're planning desert driving, where front-wheel drive runs out of grip. In the first case size up to a larger three-row SUV; in the second, take a proper 4x4. Use the Acadia for what it's good at, which is carrying people and gear in comfort on sealed roads, and it earns its place.
