Geely Emgrand 2023 - start from 98 AED / day

Want a lot of car without the deposit hassle? We rent the Geely Emgrand 2023 across Dubai with a no-deposit option at checkout, so you can drive off without a chunk of your money tied up until you return the keys. The Emgrand is the well-equipped value play in the economy class: a modern compact sedan with a roomy cabin, a genuinely usable boot, and more standard tech than most rivals at this rate. This page is here to help you decide whether a generously kitted four-door from a less familiar badge is the right call for your week, or whether you'd be better served by an established name or a smaller hatch.

What you actually get for an economy sedan

Most cars in this price bracket feel stripped. The Emgrand doesn't. You get a large central touchscreen, a digital driver display, keyless entry, and a cabin that's wider and airier than the Picanto or Spark crowd you'd otherwise be choosing between. At 4638 mm long with a 2650 mm wheelbase, it's a proper compact sedan, not a tarted-up city car, and rear passengers get real legroom rather than a token bench.

That's the honest pitch. You're paying economy money and getting a car that looks and feels a class above inside. The trade is the badge. Geely doesn't carry the resale-grade familiarity of Toyota or Hyundai, and some renters care about that even on a one-week hire. If you don't, the Emgrand gives you more car for the money than almost anything else on our economy shelf.

The engine and gearbox, honestly

The 1.5-litre makes 102 hp through a CVT, and you should know what that means before you book. Around town and on the school run it's smooth and perfectly adequate. Pull onto Sheikh Zayed Road and ask for a hard overtake, though, and the engine sends the revs up and holds them there while the car gathers pace. That's the CVT drone, and it's the Emgrand's least lovable trait. It cruises happily at 120, it just doesn't surge when you floor it.

For the driving most renters actually do, errands, airport runs, a day trip to the coast, it's fine. If you regularly want to bury the throttle and feel the car respond, this isn't that car, and no economy sedan in this class is.

Boot space and airport runs

The boot is one of the Emgrand's strongest cards. It swallows two large suitcases plus a couple of soft bags without a fight, which is more than the small hatches in this bracket manage. For a couple landing at DXB with a week's luggage, or a small family doing a DWC pickup, your cases fit and you're not playing luggage Tetris on the kerb.

The rear seats fold for anything longer, though a normal holiday's bags won't need it.

Fuel, range and how often you'll stop

The 50-litre tank and a real-world figure around 16 km/L mean you're looking at roughly 700 km between fills in mixed Dubai driving. For a typical week of city errands and a couple of longer runs, that's one fill-up, maybe two if you're commuting across the emirate daily. It's an economical car to feed, which is the whole point of renting in this class.

You pay your own Salik tolls and any RTA fines on the hire, so plan your routes if you're toll-conscious. The car takes regular petrol, no premium required.

Heat, parking and Dubai day to day

In a June afternoon with the cabin baking at 45 degrees, the AC pulls temperature down at a reasonable clip from the front vents. It's a sedan-sized cabin, so it cools faster than a big SUV but isn't instant. Park in shade where you can and give it a minute before you expect comfort. There are no separate rear vents to count on, so back-seat passengers wait a little longer on the hottest days.

Parking is easy. At 1822 mm wide the Emgrand slots into standard mall and tower bays without drama, and the light steering makes Marina ramps and multi-storey U-turns painless. The 151 mm ground clearance clears Dubai's speed bumps and mall entrances cleanly, so you're not wincing over every ramp. A reversing camera helps in tight bays. Child seats are required for under-fours, and we can fit one on request.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Rent the Emgrand if you want the most car for economy money: a couple, a small family, or anyone doing airport runs who values cabin space, a big boot, and a screen-heavy modern interior over a famous badge. For city living, light highway use, and easy parking, it's a smart, comfortable choice and it'll feed itself cheaply.

Skip it if a recognised nameplate matters to you, where a Corolla or Elantra is the safer pick, or if you only ever park in the tightest Marina bays and carry one bag, where a Picanto-sized hatch is simpler to thread. And if your week means a lot of hard overtaking on the E11, size up to something with more punch than this modest 1.5. For most renters, though, the Emgrand quietly out-equips its price.
