The decision that settles everything else here is which engine turns up on your driveway. Rent a Ford Mustang 2024 in Dubai and you might get the 2.3-litre turbocharged four or the 5.0-litre V8, because both circulate in the local fleet, and they are not the same rental. We hand this one over as a blue convertible with a power soft top, delivered to your door in one to two hours, and we will confirm the engine before you commit. Ask us. Booking a Mustang for the V8 rumble and receiving a competent four-cylinder is a bad week, and it is entirely avoidable.
The 2024 car is the seventh generation, all new rather than a facelift, so the dashboard is a pair of big screens and the driving position feels tighter and more modern than the outgoing car. Underneath, both engines drive the rear wheels through a 10-speed automatic. There is no clutch to work in traffic, which matters more in Dubai than any lap time.
The turbo four makes around 315 hp. It is genuinely quick, mid-five-seconds to 100, and it carries less weight over the nose, so the front end turns in more willingly than the V8's does. What it cannot do is make the noise. There is a growl, some of it piped through the speakers, and it is enough to be entertaining without being the reason you rented the car.
The V8 is the reason you rented the car. Depending on the version it sits somewhere around 480 to 500 hp, and the soundtrack with the roof down through a tunnel is the entire product. It also drinks accordingly and puts noticeably more weight on the front axle, which you feel in tight parking manoeuvres rather than on the highway.
One thing worth knowing: Ford's official GCC lineup for 2024 is V8 only, so any four-cylinder 2024 Mustang in Dubai is an imported car. That is normal here and nothing to worry about mechanically, but it is why you cannot assume the engine from the model year alone.
Both are happy at Sheikh Zayed Road speeds. The four cruises quietly and pulls cleanly for an overtake. The V8 does the same with more drama and more fuel.

The fuel gap is the practical consequence of the engine choice. On a 61-litre tank the four will do somewhere near 550 to 600 km of mixed Dubai driving between fills. The V8, driven the way it invites you to drive it, is closer to 400. Over a week that is two or three extra visits to the pump, which is a cost worth pricing in rather than a reason to avoid the bigger engine.
Call this a two-seater with a padded shelf behind and you will not be disappointed. The rear seats of a Mustang convertible are shaped for children on a short hop or for a bag you do not want in the boot. An adult sitting back there on the way to DXB will be folded up and unhappy, and with the roof down the wind at highway speed makes conversation pointless.
The boot holds 292 litres, which is small even by convertible standards. Two people travelling with one large case and a soft bag will manage. Two people with two large cases will be putting one on a back seat. Plan the airport run around that before you land, not at the kerb.
Up front it is roomy and comfortable, and at nearly 4.8 metres long and 1.9 metres wide the car feels bigger than it is in a multi-storey. The nose sits low. Steep mall ramps and the sharper speed bumps in residential areas want a slow, angled approach, and reversing into a tight bay is a mirrors-and-patience job because over-the-shoulder visibility with the roof up is poor. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are billed to you, and seatbelts are mandatory in every seat.
A convertible in Dubai runs on a calendar. Between November and March, roof down at dawn or after sunset is one of the better things you can do with a week here. From roughly May to September, midday with the top down is not pleasant, it is endurance, and no air conditioning system wins against direct sun in the high 40s.
Roof up, the cabin is small enough that the AC pulls it back to comfortable reasonably quickly. The first minute after a car has baked in an open car park is still harsh, and the steering wheel will be too hot to hold properly. Open the windows for half a minute to push the trapped air out, then close up and let the front vents do the work. Rear passengers, on the rare occasions there are any, get very little airflow.
Rent this if you are two people, you want the presence and the noise, and you have accepted that luggage and rear passengers are the price. If the soundtrack is the whole point of the trip, pay for the V8 and budget for the fuel. If you mostly want the look, the open roof and something you can drive all week without thinking about the fuel gauge, the four-cylinder is the smarter rental and the one we would suggest for a first Dubai visit.
Skip it if you are travelling as a family, if you need real boot space, or if your week is mostly errands and parking. A sedan or a compact crossover will cost less, carry more and frustrate you less. The Mustang is a car you rent for the experience, and it is honest about the trade.
