Pay however suits you when we hand it over, by card, in cash, or through Apple Pay or Google Pay, and the Audi S5 2022 we deliver in Dubai is ready to go inside an hour or two. This is the soft-top S5 Cabriolet, a two-door, four-seat performance Audi with a 3.0-litre turbo V6 and quattro all-wheel drive. It rents here as an everyday fast car rather than a weekend toy: quick enough to make Sheikh Zayed Road feel short, calm enough to sit in traffic without wearing you out, and good-looking enough that nobody asks why you spent the extra. The job of this page is to tell you where it shines, where it asks for compromise, and when a cheaper or faster Audi is the smarter book.
The S5 sits a step above the A5 and a step below the RS 5. You get the 341 hp turbocharged V6, an eight-speed automatic, and quattro sending power to all four wheels, which is what makes the 4.6-second sprint to 100 feel so undramatic. Traction is never in question, even pulling out of a side road in summer when the surface is hot and slick.
Drop the roof and it changes character. The V6 has a deeper voice than you'd expect from a six, and the cabin stays settled at speed without the buffeting that ruins some convertibles. Roof up, it's quiet enough for calls and feels like a proper coupe.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Body | Two-door convertible (Cabriolet), 4 seats |
| Engine | 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 |
| Power | 341 hp |
| Drive | Quattro all-wheel drive |
| Transmission | 8-speed automatic |
| 0 to 100 km/h | 4.6 seconds |
| Top speed | 250 km/h (limited) |
| Fuel tank | 58 litres |
| Economy | around 10 L/100km in mixed Dubai use |
| Boot | 309 litres (roof up) |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,697 x 1,847 x 1,384 mm |
| Colour | green (subject to availability) |
The numbers in that table set up decisions; the rest of this page is what they mean for a week of driving here.
On the E11 and the wider stretches out toward Abu Dhabi, the S5 is in its element. There's enough mid-range to clear a slow truck in one clean move, and quattro means a sudden lane change at speed never gets nervous. It cruises at the legal limit barely working, which matters more than the top figure you'll never legally use. Speed cameras here are dense and unforgiving, and every fine lands on the renter, so the relevant point isn't how fast it goes but how relaxed it stays at 120.
For airport runs to DXB or out to DWC, two people and weekend bags travel in comfort. Where it asks for patience is the rougher stuff: aggressive speed bumps and the lips on some mall ramps. The suspension is firm by design, so you'll slow right down for the sharp ones rather than glide over them. That's the trade for how flat it stays through a fast bend.
Park anything dark in direct sun here and the cabin turns into an oven within minutes. The S5's climate system pulls a baked interior back to comfortable quickly once you're moving, and the vents have real force, but give it a minute with the windows cracked before you expect miracles. The leather seats get genuinely hot, so the early part of any midday drive is about letting the AC catch up.
The folding roof is the wildcard. On a 45-degree afternoon you'll leave it up and let the air-conditioning do its work. The roof-down car belongs to the cooler months and the hour after sunset, which in Dubai is most of the year outside high summer.
Call it a four-seater and mean it loosely. The two rear seats are fine for kids or shorter adults on a short hop, but anyone tall sits with knees up behind a tall driver. For four adults across town, this is the wrong car. The boot holds 309 litres roof up, enough for two cabin cases or a large case and a couple of soft bags, not a family's worth of luggage. Drop the roof and that space shrinks as the top stows, so keep it closed for airport trips.
On fuel, the V6 is thirsty when you use it and reasonable when you don't. Expect around 10 litres per 100km in normal Dubai mix, more if you lean on it. The 58-litre tank gives a comfortable week of city and highway driving between fills, so you're not chasing petrol stations.
Two practical Dubai notes. Salik toll gates charge automatically and those go on your bill, as do any RTA fines. Belts are mandatory in every seat, front and rear, so buckle the back passengers in too.
It's wide, low, and 4.7 metres long, so the tight multi-storey bays in Marina and the older mall car parks need a careful line and a glance at the kerb. The low nose is the thing to watch on steep ramps. The parking sensors and camera take the stress out of squeezing into a gap, and roof down the over-shoulder view actually improves. None of this is a deal-breaker, just the daily reality of a sports two-door versus a tall crossover.
Rent the S5 2022 if you want one car that does the fast highway run, the evening top-down cruise, and the everyday commute without feeling like a compromise, and you're mostly travelling one or two up. It's the sweet spot in the range: clearly quicker and more special than an A5, far cheaper to run and rent than an RS 5.
Skip it if you regularly carry four adults or real luggage, in which case an A5 Sportback or an A6 gives you the doors and the boot for less. And if outright speed is the whole point of the trip, step up to an RS model and accept the firmer ride and the fuel bill that comes with it. For most people who want a quick, refined, genuinely good-looking Audi for a Dubai week, the S5 is the one to book.
