The first thing we do at handover is walk you around the front of the car and point at the lower lip. That is the panel that comes back scraped, and on a car with a nose this low it happens on a mall ramp or a sharp speed bump rather than anywhere exciting. Rent a Ford Mustang 2022 in Dubai and we bring it to your address in one to two hours, in gold, with a power soft top. This is the outgoing generation rather than the current one, and what that actually costs you is the thing worth working out before you book.
Rear-wheel drive, a 10-speed automatic, and a long bonnet you sit well behind. The steering has some weight to it, the car feels wide from the driver's seat, and it settles into a relaxed cruise better than most cars that look this aggressive. There is no manual in the rental fleet, so traffic is a matter of sitting with your foot on the brake like any other automatic.
The engine is where 2022 cars differ from each other. Both the 2.3-litre turbocharged four and the 5.0-litre V8 were sold new in the region that year, so either can turn up on a booking, and they are not the same rental. Confirm which one you are getting when you book. We will tell you.
The four makes 310 hp and 475 Nm. It is quicker than people expect, mid five seconds to 100, and it carries less weight over the front axle, which makes the car keener to turn into a corner than the V8 is. What it does not do is make the noise. There is a growl and some of it comes through the speakers, and it entertains without ever being the reason you booked the car.
The V8 is around 450 hp, and the noise is the entire product. Roof down through an underpass at part throttle is what people are paying for, and it delivers that on the first morning. It also drinks, and you feel the extra weight over the nose when you are shuffling into a bay rather than when you are moving.
Either engine is comfortable at Sheikh Zayed Road speeds with plenty in reserve for an overtake. Roof down above about 100 the wind takes over and conversation stops.

The rear seats exist, and adults do not fit in them. Treat this as a two-seater with a padded shelf behind you and the car will never disappoint you. Children on a short hop are fine. A grown adult back there on the way to the airport will be folded into the seat back and will not forgive you.
The boot is quoted at 323 litres, a little more than the current Mustang convertible manages, and one of the quiet arguments for taking the older car. The number flatters it slightly. The opening is narrow and the space shallow because the roof mechanism sits above and behind it, so soft bags go in easily and rigid suitcases fight you. Two people with one large case and a couple of soft bags will be fine for a week. Two large hard cases means one of them rides on a back seat.
At 4,783 mm long and 1,915 mm wide, the width is what you notice in older car parks rather than the length. Reversing into a tight bay with the roof up is a mirrors-and-camera job, because looking over your shoulder shows you mostly fabric.
On fuel, the 61-litre tank gives the four roughly 550 to 600 km of mixed Dubai driving between fills, and the V8 closer to 400 if you drive it the way it asks to be driven. That is a real difference over a week. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are billed to you, and seat belts are mandatory in every seat.
A convertible here runs on a calendar. From November to March, roof down at dawn or after dark is one of the better ways to spend a week in this city. Between May and September, midday with the top stowed is heat exposure rather than enjoyment, and no air conditioning system beats direct sun in the high forties.
A fabric roof also insulates less than a metal one. A Mustang convertible left in an open car park in August gets hotter inside than a hard-top parked next to it, and takes longer to bring back down. Park in shade or a basement where you can, use a windscreen shade, and give it a couple of minutes before you expect the cabin to be pleasant. The front vents are strong once it gets going. Anyone in the back gets almost no airflow, which is one more reason not to put them there.
The cabin is the clearest difference from the current car. This is the conventional dashboard with a small central screen rather than the twin-display layout that arrived in 2024, so it looks its age next to the newer one. In exchange you get physical climate and volume controls you can work without taking your eyes off the road, and in stop-start traffic that is no downgrade at all.
Book this if you are two people, you want the presence and the open roof, and you would rather not pay current-generation money for a cabin screen you will barely look at. The drive is the same kind of event it has always been, the boot is marginally more useful, and you can rent it from 18 here rather than the 21 most desks in Dubai insist on. If the V8 soundtrack is the reason for the trip, ask for it specifically and budget for the fuel. For a full week of driving without watching the gauge, the four is the smarter booking and the one we would put a first-time visitor in.
Take the 2024 instead if you want the newer interior badly enough to pay for it. Skip the Mustang altogether if you are travelling as a family, if two hard suitcases are non-negotiable, or if your week is mostly errands and multi-storey parking. A sedan or a compact crossover will carry more and annoy you less. This car is rented for the experience, and it is honest about what that costs.
