Some cars you rent to get somewhere. The Mustang you rent because the drive itself is the plan. We hand over the 2021 Ford Mustang across Dubai with doorstep delivery in one to two hours, so the keys reach you at your hotel or villa without a desk visit. This is a two-door muscle car built around its looks and its exhaust note, and that is the honest pitch. What it is not is a sensible weekly runabout. If you are weighing a Mustang against a practical sedan for errands and four adults, the rest of this page is the deciding read.
The 2021 Mustang here is the 2.3-litre EcoBoost, a turbocharged four-cylinder making 310 hp, paired with a 10-speed automatic driving the rear wheels. That last detail matters in Dubai. Rear-wheel drive plus a sticky throttle means it can step out if you bury the pedal on a damp underpass after rare rain, so treat the first morning gently.
The EcoBoost is the right engine for a rental. It is quick enough to be genuinely fun, lighter over the nose than the V8, and far easier on fuel, yet you still get the low-slung stance and a proper growl. For a week of cruising and the odd highway blast, it does the job.

The Mustang is a 2+2. The front seats are roomy and comfortable for tall drivers, but the two rear seats are a formality. An adult back there has knees in the front seatback and head against the roofline, fine for a ten-minute hop, miserable for an airport run across town. Children fit. Adults will ask to swap after one trip.
The boot follows the same story. You will get a couple of soft bags or one medium case plus a backpack in, not a family's worth of hard luggage. Two people travelling light, it is plenty. Four people with bags, this is the wrong car and a sedan or crossover is the answer.
This is a convertible, which sounds perfect until July. With the roof down at midday in the high 40s, you are sitting in direct sun on dark seats, and the AC is fighting a losing battle. The roof earns its keep early morning, late evening, and in the cooler months from roughly November to March, which is when a top-down cruise actually makes sense.
Roof up, the cabin is small, so the AC pulls it down to comfortable faster than a big SUV would. Park in the sun for an hour and the first minute is still brutal on the seats and wheel. Start it, drop the windows for thirty seconds to vent the worst of the heat, then close up and let it cool.
At nearly 4.8 metres and low to the ground, the Mustang asks for patience in town. Tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps are the daily friction. The 137 mm of clearance is low, so steep mall ramps and aggressive speed bumps need a slow, square approach to avoid scraping the front. The nose is long and visibility over your shoulder is poor, so reverse parking takes a couple of extra seconds.
On the open road it comes into its own. Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 are where this car is happy, settling into a relaxed cruise with plenty in reserve for an overtake. The chassis is built for straight-line drama more than tight corners, so it is a cruiser at heart, not a back-road scalpel.
The car carries a Salik tag and those tolls are billed to you, along with any RTA speeding fines, and the cameras here are unforgiving on a car that builds speed this easily. Seatbelts are mandatory in every seat. Keep that in mind, because the throttle makes it very easy to drift past the limit without noticing.
The EcoBoost is the thrifty Mustang, but thrifty is relative. Driven gently you will see something close to 8 L/100km on a steady highway run. Drive it the way the car invites you to, and city figures climb toward 11 or beyond. On a roughly 61-litre tank that is comfortably a few hundred kilometres of mixed driving between fills, so you are not stopping constantly, but you will visit the pump more than in an economy hatch.
Rent the Mustang if you want a weekend, a cruise, and a car that makes the trip feel like an occasion. Two people, light luggage, a stretch of highway and the cooler months for the roof down. It looks the part and sounds it, and the EcoBoost gives you most of the theatre without the V8's fuel bill.
Skip it if you need to move four adults, carry real luggage, or do daily runs across town. For that, a sedan or crossover will be cheaper to run, easier to park, and far less of a compromise. And if your priority is genuine driving precision over presence and noise, a sharper-handling sports car will reward you more. The Mustang is rented for the show. Go in wanting that, and it delivers.
