Black is the color most people already picture when someone says Mustang, and on this convertible it reads as the classic choice rather than the safe one. This Ford Mustang 2020 rents in Dubai in exactly that shade, the drop-top S550 body Ford sold before the redesigned 2025 car took over, and we can have it at your hotel or home within one to two hours of booking. Ford built this generation with two very different engines under the same badge, a turbocharged four and a naturally aspirated V8, and a listing rarely says which one you are actually getting. Working that out, not the paint, is what decides your week.
Ford sold the 2020 Mustang two distinct ways, and the badge on the boot lid does not say which one you are renting. The 2.3-litre turbocharged four makes about 310 hp and clears 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.5 seconds, quick enough that nobody calls it slow, and light enough over the nose that it turns into a roundabout cleanly. The 5.0-litre V8 in the GT makes about 450 hp, covers the same sprint in roughly 4.3 seconds, and adds an idle and a mid-range shove the turbo four cannot fake. Both send power through a 10-speed automatic to the rear wheels only. There has never been an all-wheel-drive Mustang, so ignore anything elsewhere that suggests otherwise, and ask which engine is actually on this car before you commit to a deposit.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 2.3 L turbo four, or 5.0 L V8 GT (confirm which) |
| Power | About 310 hp (four) / about 450 hp (V8) |
| 0-100 km/h | About 5.5 s (four) / about 4.3 s (V8) |
| Transmission | 10-speed automatic |
| Drive | Rear-wheel drive |
| Seats | 4 (2+2) |
| Boot | About 323 litres |
| Fuel tank | Around 61 litres |
| Fuel economy | About 9 to 10 L/100km combined |
| Dimensions L x W x H | 4,789 x 1,916 x 1,381 mm |
| Ground clearance | About 131 mm |
| Colour | Black |
Either engine settles into a fast, easy cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road with enough left for a clean overtake. Where they part ways is off the line and through the top of the rev range, not in ordinary traffic, which is exactly why it is worth confirming rather than assuming.
Book this as a two-seat car and it delivers on that promise. It is a 2+2, and the rear bench suits a jacket, a shopping bag or a child on a short hop, not an adult who wants to keep the use of their knees afterward. Up front, two people get a low, well-shaped seat and enough room to actually enjoy the drive rather than endure it.
The boot holds about 323 litres, noticeably less than the fixed-roof Mustang's, because the folding fabric top needs somewhere to live behind the seats. That is still a large case and a soft bag, or a sensible two-person airport run, and dropping the roof does not shrink the space further, since the fabric stows into its own well rather than piling onto your luggage. What wants more care is the height off the ground: at around 131 mm of clearance, speed bumps and the steeper hotel or mall ramps need a slow, angled approach rather than a straight run at them.
Black is the color that works hardest against you at midday here. Leave the roof folded in direct sun for an hour and the seats and the wheel will be properly hot before you touch them, more so than on a lighter car. Treat the drop-top as a morning, evening or winter pleasure rather than a lunchtime one. From roughly November through March you can run the roof down for most of the day and enjoy it. Once real summer sets in, keep the open-air hours to early morning and after sunset, and never leave the roof folded on a car parked in the open at noon.
Roof up, the small cabin works in the car's favour. There is not much air in there for the AC to cool, so the front vents pull the temperature down within a couple of minutes once you are moving, while the back gets far less airflow, one more reason those rear seats stay occasional. Running cost tracks the engine you land. The EcoBoost four returns roughly 9 to 10 litres per 100 km in mixed city driving, and with a tank of around 61 litres that clears well past 500 km between fills on a normal week. A V8 covering the same week drinks noticeably more. Both want premium fuel, Salik tolls and any RTA fines pass to the renter, and seat belts are required in every seat.
Book this Mustang if you are one or two people after the shape, this black drop-top and an evening with the roof down, and you are happy to confirm the engine rather than assume it. It still handles daily errands, an airport pickup and a mall run without complaint, provided you respect the low nose on ramps and speed bumps.
Ask for the V8 if the exhaust note is the actual reason you want a Mustang, because the four-cylinder is a genuinely good car but rarely the reason people book this badge in the first place. Look at a sedan or an SUV instead if your week means four adults or a real pile of luggage, since the back seats and the firm ride will wear thin fast.
A few terms before you book. The daily mileage allowance is 250 km, and every kilometre past that costs AED 0.5. You need to be at least 25 to take the keys. It rents against a refundable AED 1,500 deposit, returned once the car comes back in the condition it left in. Settle the engine question first, keep the party to two, and this black convertible is one of the most recognisable ways to spend a week in this city.
