For a family week where everyone wants a window seat and room to breathe, the Citroen C4 SpaceTourer 2023 is one of the more comfortable five-seat people-carriers you can rent in Dubai. We bring it to your door, usually within one to two hours of booking, with debit card or cash fine at handover. This is a tall, glassy MPV built around passenger space and ride comfort rather than ground clearance or badge appeal, and that shapes who should book it. The page below settles one decision: whether a roomy, easy-riding five-seater suits your week, or whether you actually need SUV height or a genuine third row instead.
First, clear up the name, because two very different Citroens wear "SpaceTourer" badges. This is the compact C4 SpaceTourer, the car that replaced the C4 Picasso, and it's a five-seat family MPV. It is not the big van-based shuttle with sliding side doors, and it is not the longer seven-seat Grand. Five doors, five seats, one flexible cabin.
Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre turbo petrol four making 165 hp, paired with a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels. That is worth stating plainly, because this model never came with a 2.0 petrol. The turbo four is the engine you can stand behind, and it's a good one for the job. It'll reach 100 km/h in the mid-eight-second range, so despite the boxy MPV shape this car merges onto Sheikh Zayed Road without drama and overtakes cleanly when the cabin is full.
| Spec | Detail |
|---|---|
| Engine | 1.6-litre turbo petrol (THP), 4-cylinder |
| Power | 165 hp / 240 Nm |
| Transmission | 6-speed automatic |
| Drive | Front-wheel drive |
| Seats | 5 |
| Boot | about 537 L behind the rear seats, up to roughly 1,630 L with them folded |
| Fuel economy | about 5.6 L/100km official, roughly 8 to 9 L/100km in Dubai city |
| Fuel tank | about 55 litres |
| Range | roughly 600 km of mixed city driving on a tank |
| Dimensions (L x W x H) | 4,438 x 1,826 x 1,625 mm |
| Ground clearance | Low, MPV ride height, not a crossover |
| Colour | Black |
Space is the reason to rent this car, and it's real. The C4 SpaceTourer has a deep windscreen and tall side glass, so the cabin feels bright and open in a way most sedans and small crossovers don't manage. Kids get a proper view out, which cuts down on the "are we there yet" on a longer run to the coast.
The clever part is the back row. Instead of a single bench, you get three separate seats that each slide and fold on their own. Three children fit across easily, and three adults sit three-abreast far more comfortably than they would in a same-size SUV, because nobody's fighting over a shared bench. Slide the seats and you trade a little legroom for boot space whenever you need to.
Luggage is where this MPV pulls ahead of the three-row crowd. Behind the rear seats there's about 537 litres, which is a genuine two large cases plus soft bags for a DXB or DWC pickup, with all five people still aboard. That's the honest advantage over a seven-seater, where a full house leaves almost no boot. Fold the three rear seats flat and the load bay opens to roughly 1,630 litres, enough for a flatpack run or a bike, so a five-seat MPV covers the "moving day" week that a sedan can't.
Citroen tunes these cars for a soft, settled ride, and on Dubai's motorways and expansion joints that pays off. It cruises quietly and soaks up rough tarmac better than a firm crossover. The trade is height. This car sits low, at normal MPV ride height rather than SUV clearance, so aggressive speed bumps and steep basement ramps in older mall car parks want a slow, square approach. Take those gently and it's fine. Just don't expect to ride over them like a raised 4x4, and keep it well away from soft sand, because it's a front-drive road car through and through.
Heat needs an honest word, because all that lovely glass cuts both ways. A big glasshouse means more sun loading the cabin, and in a black car parked in July that adds up fast. The front vents are strong and cool the front two seats quickly once you're moving, and rear passengers get airflow too. The fix on the worst afternoons is the usual one: start the car and let the AC run for a few minutes before you load everyone in, and park in shade or a basement whenever you can. Do that and a full family stays comfortable through a Dubai summer.
Running it is cheap for the space on offer. The 1.6 turbo returns a lab figure near 5.6 litres per 100 km, and in real Dubai stop-and-go with the AC flat out you're closer to 8 or 9. The tank holds about 55 litres, so a normal city week means one visit to the pump, maybe two if you're commuting from the far suburbs. The daily allowance is 250 km, which covers ordinary family life across the city with room to spare. Go past it and it's AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, so a full day out to the east coast and back is worth a quick sum first. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to you, as with every car here, and child seats are required for under-fours.
Rent the C4 SpaceTourer if you're up to five people who want space, light and comfort over ride height. Families who value a bright cabin, three proper rear seats and a real boot that survives a full airport load will get exactly that, along with an easy, quiet highway manner. For city weeks, school runs and long cruises to Abu Dhabi, it's a relaxed, sensible booking.
Look at a crossover or SUV instead in two cases. If you want the high seating position, easy loading height and the confidence of more ground clearance over Dubai's speed bumps and ramps, a raised five-seater suits you better even though the C4's boot and cabin comfort are hard to beat. And if you genuinely need seven seats, this isn't your car, so step up to a three-row SUV or a longer MPV where the back row is part of the plan. You'll also need to be 25 to take the keys. Rent this one for what it does well, which is carrying five people and their bags in unusual comfort, and it's an easy car to spend a week with.
