Renters cross-shopping a big SUV in Dubai often set the Chevrolet Traverse 2020 next to a Tahoe or a Nissan Patrol, and the comparison holds up. This is a genuine full-size, three-row SUV with the footprint and seven seats to match either one. What it isn't is a body-on-frame truck with a V8 and the fuel bills that come with one. The Traverse rides on a car-based platform with a 3.6-litre V6, giving you the size and seating of an American full-size SUV without the running costs that usually go with it. We deliver it within one to two hours of booking. This page settles where that trade-off pays off for a big family week, and where it doesn't.
Chevrolet builds the 2020 Traverse around a 3.6-litre V6 making 310 hp and 361 Nm of torque, sent through a nine-speed automatic to the front wheels. That's a naturally aspirated six doing the work, not a small turbo four running out of breath once the cabin fills up, and it shows on Sheikh Zayed Road. Load all seven seats and the boot and the V6 still pulls onto the highway without hesitation, with enough left over for a confident pass at 120 rather than a long wind-up.
Where the Traverse actually differs from a true full-size rival like a Tahoe or a Patrol is underneath. Those ride on separate body-on-frame chassis built to tow and go off-road, and they carry the weight and the fuel habits that come with that job. The Traverse's unibody construction makes it lighter and easier to place in traffic, closer to driving a large crossover than a truck. It also means front-wheel drive only on this car, with no low-range gearing and no real off-road ambition. Hatta's rougher tracks and open sand are a Patrol's job, not this one's.
Inside, the Traverse earns the full-size comparison. Three rows, seven seats, and a middle row that takes three across without anyone folding in sideways. The third row has the leg and head room for adults on an airport run, which is more than most mid-size seven-seaters can claim, and it puts the Traverse's cabin closer to a Tahoe's usable space than its smaller unibody footprint suggests.
Luggage is where the trade-off shows up, and it's the same trade-off every three-row SUV makes. With all seven seats up, the boot holds about 651 litres, enough for a big grocery run or several soft bags, not seven hard suitcases. Fold the third row and that grows to roughly 1,640 litres, comfortably two or three large cases plus carry-ons. Drop the second row too and you're near 2,780 litres, enough to move a one-bedroom apartment in one trip. Seven passengers and seven full suitcases will not fit at once, so decide which one this particular trip needs before anyone starts packing.

| Boot | 651 litres behind third row (up to 2,780 litres with rows folded) |

| Fuel tank | 73 litres |
| Range | Roughly 550 km across a mixed week of city and highway driving |

This is where the Traverse's real advantage over a true full-size rival shows up. Chevrolet's combined figure for this FWD V6 is around 11 L/100km, and a loaded cabin running the AC hard through a Dubai afternoon pushes that closer to 13 or 14. A V8 body-on-frame SUV in the same seating class drinks noticeably more than that, and the gap adds up over a week of city driving and airport runs. The 73-litre tank still covers roughly 550 km on a mixed week of driving, so fill-ups don't turn into a daily errand.
Your rental includes 250 km a day, with anything past that billed at AED 0.5 per extra kilometre, worth totting up before a long day out to Al Ain. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are yours to settle, and every seat needs a belt, with a proper child seat required for anyone under four. This car's silver paint helps on the heat side too. Light colours hold less sun than a dark cabin does, so the wait before everyone climbs in is shorter, though a few minutes of AC and shaded parking when you can find it still make the third row noticeably more comfortable.
Book the Traverse 2020 if you want Tahoe or Patrol-level seating and presence for six or seven people, without paying for a V8 or carrying weight built for towing and dunes you won't drive. The third row holds real adults, the V6 never feels taxed by a full load, and the boot still manages a fair stack of luggage once that row folds away.
Size down if it's really two or three of you running errands around the city. A five-metre SUV means hunting for a bigger bay for space nobody's using, and a compact or mid-size crossover does the same job for less at the pump. If Hatta or genuine desert driving is part of the plan, skip the Traverse for a proper 4x4 like a Patrol or a Land Cruiser instead. This front-wheel-drive SUV is built for tarmac, not sand. For the family or group week it's actually sized for, it delivers full-size room without full-size running costs. Minimum age to rent is 25.
