Want a midsize saloon that drives easy and won't ask for a deposit up front? We hand over the Chevrolet Malibu 2024 across Dubai with the no-deposit option, so the booking is light on paperwork and quick to confirm. This is the freshest model year of a comfortable, frugal four-door, and it earns its keep on the boring stuff that actually matters on a week's rental: a big back seat, a deep boot, and a relaxed drive that doesn't tire you out on a long airport run. The argument here is simple. As a sensible value saloon for families and longer trips, the Malibu is hard to beat, as long as you want comfort rather than pace.
The Malibu's real selling point is space. Three adults fit across the back without anyone drawing the short straw, and legroom back there is genuinely generous for the class. Up front, the seats are soft and supportive in the way American saloons tend to be, which suits long stints behind the wheel more than quick darts through traffic.
The boot is where this car quietly wins. It swallows two large suitcases and a couple of cabin bags with room to spare, so a family of four heading to DXB or DWC with a week's luggage doesn't have to play tetris. Fold the rear bench and you've got space for a flat-pack run or a bulky pram. If you're moving more than that regularly, you're really shopping for an SUV, but for normal family loads the Malibu has it covered.
The 1.5-litre turbo makes 160 horsepower and pairs with a CVT automatic. On paper that's modest, and on the road it's exactly what it reads as. The Malibu gets to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, which is fine, and it cruises Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 calmly at the limit without any fuss.
Push it hard and the CVT drones, the way these gearboxes do, and the engine sounds busier than the speed suggests. So don't. Drive it the way it wants to be driven, with light throttle and a bit of patience, and it's smooth and quiet. Overtaking on the highway needs a little forward planning rather than a stab of the pedal, but for relaxed motorway miles and airport runs it does the job well. If you want a saloon that feels eager, this isn't it, and a sportier compact won't give you this much room anyway.
The Malibu is economical for its size. The 61-litre tank combined with a frugal turbo means a typical week of mixed city and highway driving rarely has you visiting the pump more than once. Expect a real-world figure closer to the high single digits per 100 km once Dubai heat and constant AC use are factored in, rather than the official combined number, but the range is still long enough that fuel stops aren't part of your routine. For someone clocking up airport transfers and the odd intercity trip, that's one less thing to think about.
Cabin cooling is the first test any rental faces here, and a midsize saloon like this has the advantage of strong front vents that pull a parked cabin down from the high 40s reasonably fast. Rear passengers get their own vents, which matters when you've got kids in the back on a July afternoon. Park in shade where you can, give it a minute with the doors open, and the AC does the rest.
A few practical Dubai notes. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during your rental are passed to you, so a Salik-light route saves money on the daily Marina and Downtown crossings. Seat belts are required in every seat. As a midsize sedan, the Malibu is longer than a compact, so tight multi-storey bays and tight Marina ramps take a touch more care, but it's an easy car to place and the visibility is good. Speed bumps and mall ramps are no trouble at normal pace.

Rent the Malibu if you want a comfortable, spacious value saloon for family trips, airport runs, and relaxed highway miles, and you'd rather have a big boot and roomy back seat than quick acceleration. It's the easy, sensible pick for that brief, and the no-deposit booking keeps it simple.
Look elsewhere in two cases. If it's just you or a couple doing short city errands, a compact sedan is cheaper to rent and easier to park, and you won't miss the extra space. If you're carrying five adults plus a full set of luggage, or you want a higher seating position and more cargo room for desert weekends, size up to an SUV. For everyone in between, the Malibu is a lot of comfortable car for the money.
