Some cars you rent to get somewhere. The Chevrolet Camaro 2024 is one you rent to be seen getting there. We hand it over in Dubai with a no-deposit option, so you can have a rear-drive American muscle coupe sitting outside your building without tying up a chunk of cash on hold. This is one of the last model years for a shape that's been turning heads for a decade, and that's really the point of it. The 2.0-litre turbo four pushes 275 horsepower to the back wheels, the nose is long and low, and the whole thing looks fast standing still. What it isn't is a sensible daily driver, and the rest of this page is about that gap.
The Camaro is a statement first. Wide stance, squat roofline, short rear deck, the kind of profile that gets a second look at a valet stand. Under the bonnet sits a turbocharged 2.0-litre four rated at 275 hp, driving the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox. It clears 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.5 seconds and runs on to a 240 km/h top speed. That's quick enough to feel genuinely fast on an entry ramp, and the rear-drive layout means it moves with a bit of attitude when you ask it to.
Numbers like these usually come with a sportier price of admission than the 2.0T four, and that's the smart part of this spec. You get the drama of the body and a strong launch without paying for a thirsty V8 you'd rarely use on Dubai roads.

Inside, the Camaro treats space the way a coupe does, which is to say it spends most of it on you and the front passenger. The two of you sit low, hugged by the doors and a high window line, and it feels like a cockpit. That's flattering up front and unforgiving everywhere else.
The two rear seats exist mostly on paper. They'll take a couple of kids on a short hop or a friend who owes you a favour, but an adult back there for an airport run will not thank you. Headroom and legroom both run out fast under that sloping roof.
The boot is small. Plan on one medium case and a soft bag, or two carry-ons, and not much more. For a couple travelling light it works. For a family with a week of luggage from DXB or DWC, this is the wrong car and a sedan or SUV is the right one. Be honest with yourself about the bags before you book.
A low, dark cabin with a lot of glass bakes hard when it's parked at 45 degrees, and a black car drinks in the sun. The front vents pull the temperature down well enough once you're moving, but the first few minutes after you climb in are warm, and there are no proper rear vents to speak of. Park in shade or a basement when you can. Give it a minute with the doors open and the fan high before you expect the seats to be bearable. This is the trade you accept for the looks.
On the open stretches of Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11, the Camaro is in its element. It cruises with a planted, heavy feel, overtakes without drama, and has the presence to make space appear in the lane ahead. The ride is firm, so expansion joints and rougher patches come through, but at speed it settles into something composed and confident.
Around town it asks more of you. The body is wide and you sit low, so judging the corners takes a beat, and the thick rear pillars eat into your over-the-shoulder view. Reverse cameras help, but tight multi-storey bays and Marina ramps stay a careful, deliberate job. The front lip sits close to the ground, so steep ramp entries and aggressive speed bumps want a slow, square approach to avoid a scrape. None of this is a dealbreaker. It's just the daily reality of a car shaped like this one.
A few Dubai rules carry over to you as the renter. Salik tolls run on your account, RTA fines and speed-camera penalties pass to you, and seat belts are required in every seat. With 275 hp and a top speed of 240, the enforcement cameras are worth respecting.
The 72-litre tank and roughly 10.2 L/100km combined give you something near 700 km on paper, though city stop-and-go and a heavy right foot pull that down. In real Dubai driving, mixing traffic with a few highway blasts, expect to fill up about once a week of normal use. It takes standard petrol, so there's no premium-fuel surprise. For a car this fast, that's reasonable, and you won't be chained to the pump.
Rent the Camaro if you want the looks, the rear-drive feel and the noise on the highway for a weekend or a special week, and you're travelling as one or two people who pack light. For that brief, it delivers exactly what it promises and very few cars at this level match the presence.
Skip it if you need real back seats, a usable boot, or an easy car to park and load every day. Two adults moving between meetings, a family doing mall runs and airport pickups, anyone hauling luggage, you'll be happier and less stressed in a sedan or a mid-size SUV. The Camaro is rented for the drama, not the errands, and it's honest about that.
