A drop-top muscle car for the price of a mid-size SUV is a rare thing, and that's the case for renting a Chevrolet Camaro 2021 convertible in Dubai. We bring it to your door in one to two hours, no deposit needed if you take the small insurance add-on, and you can rent from 18 rather than the 21 most desks insist on. What you're paying for is the experience: a 275 hp rear-drive convertible with the roof down on a winter evening. Our honest take is that this is the car to book for a few days of fun, not a week of family logistics. Here's where it shines and where it doesn't.
The whole point of this car is the soft top. From roughly November to March, evenings in Dubai are made for it, and dropping the roof along Jumeirah Beach Road or out past the Palm is the version of this rental everyone remembers. In high summer it's a different story. Open-top motoring at 43 degrees is a novelty that lasts about four minutes, so most of June through September you'll drive it as a coupe with the roof up and the AC on.
That AC matters more in a convertible, because a fabric roof insulates less than a metal one. Parked in the sun all afternoon, the cabin bakes, and the system takes a little longer to win than it would in a saloon. Give it a few minutes with the roof up and the front vents on full and it gets there. Just don't expect a closed, chilled cabin the instant you climb in.
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four making 275 hp and 400 Nm. On paper that sounds modest for a muscle car, but it shrugs the Camaro off the line in around six seconds and pulls hard through the mid-range. On Sheikh Zayed Road it has more than enough to merge and overtake without drama, and the rear-wheel-drive chassis feels planted and serious in a way crossovers never do.
It's quick, not savage. If you want the V8 soundtrack and brutal acceleration, this isn't that car, and we'd point you at a V8 model instead. For most renters who want the look, the noise of a turbo four, and a genuinely good drive, the 2.0 does the job and sips far less fuel doing it.

The turbo four is the reason this Camaro is cheap to run for what it is. Cruise on the highway and it returns around 8 litres per 100 km, and even in stop-start Marina traffic with the AC working you'll see consumption climb but stay reasonable. The 72-litre tank then goes a long way. For a few days of mixed driving plus an airport run or two, you're filling up once, maybe twice, not living at the pump like a V8 owner would.
Call it a four-seater and you'll be happy; treat it as a two-seater with occasional rear space and you'll be happier still. The back seats suit kids or short hops, not adults on a long drive. The boot is small, and with the convertible mechanism eating into it, plan on two carry-on bags or a couple of soft holdalls. Two people heading out for the weekend are fine. Collecting four adults with suitcases from DXB is not what this car is for, and we'd steer you to a saloon for that job.
At 4.78 metres it's long and wide, but visibility forward is fine and parking sensors take the stress out of tight bays. The low 115 mm clearance is the thing to watch. Steep Marina ramps and the lips at some mall entrances need a slow, square approach so the nose doesn't scrape, and you'll take speed bumps gently. On the open E11 it's quiet and stable at cruising speeds, exactly where a car like this belongs.
Remember the running costs that fall to you. Salik tolls are charged as you pass the gantries, any RTA fines during the rental are yours, and seat belts are required in every seat.
Book the Camaro 2021 if you want a rear-drive convertible for a special few days in the cooler months, you're one or two people, and the look and the open roof matter more than outright space. It's the affordable way into the muscle-car experience, and the turbo four keeps fuel bills sane.
Skip it if you need to carry four adults and luggage, or if you're chasing the full V8 noise and shove. For the first, a sedan makes more sense. For the second, size up to a V8 Camaro and accept the fuel bill that comes with it.
