A drop-top makes sense in Dubai for about half the year, and knowing which half is the difference between loving this car and fighting it. We rent the Chevrolet Camaro 2020 convertible, a rear-drive muscle car with a folding soft top, a 2.0-litre turbo that still pulls hard, and a look that earns stares on the Marina strip. It rents for feel and presence, not for carrying people or cases. This page helps you decide one thing: whether an open-top coupe is the right kind of fun for your week, or whether the climate and the cabin will work against you.
Start with the top, because it's the reason to choose this over the coupe. From roughly October to April, an early-morning or evening run with the roof down is exactly what the car is for: warm air, the city lights coming up, the engine breathing right behind you. In high summer it's a short pleasure at best. Park in the sun with the roof up on a 45-degree afternoon and the cabin bakes, the leather gets hot to the touch, and you'll keep the top up with the AC working hard. The good news is the air-conditioning is strong and the cabin is small, so once you're moving with the roof closed it cools quickly through the front vents. Plan your roof-down time around the cooler hours and the Camaro rewards you. Expect to drive it as a normal closed coupe through the middle of a summer day.
The 2020 car here is the convertible with the 2.0-litre turbocharged four, good for 275 hp through the rear wheels and an eight-speed automatic. Chevrolet quotes the dash to 100 km/h at around 5.5 seconds, and it feels every bit that quick when you bury the throttle. The four-cylinder won't give you the bassy V8 rumble of an SS, but with the roof down it sounds purposeful, and it's lighter over the nose, so it turns in more eagerly than people expect. Rear-wheel drive is the character that matters most: it makes the car feel planted and alive in a way a front-drive rental never will.

Treat this as a two-seater with an emergency bench. The rear seats exist, but headroom and legroom back there are tight enough that adults last about as long as a short hop across town. They're fine for bags or a couple of kids on a quick run, not for a fourth and fifth passenger on an airport leg.
The boot is small, around 207 litres, and the folding-roof mechanism eats into it further when the top is stowed. Think weekend holdalls and soft bags, not hard suitcases. If you're collecting people from DXB with a week of luggage, this is the wrong car, and you'll feel it the moment the cases come out.
On Sheikh Zayed Road and the E11 the Camaro is in its element. There's real shove for overtaking, it sits planted at a cruise, and the rear-drive chassis keeps it engaging in a way the numbers don't fully capture. An early-evening blast with the roof down is the version of this car worth paying for.
Parking is where it asks for patience. It's wide at close to 1.9 metres, the windscreen pillars are thick, and the high waistline with the small rear glass means visibility over your shoulder is poor. Cameras and sensors help, but tight multi-storey bays and mall ramps need care. Ground clearance is low, so take speed bumps and steep ramp transitions slowly and at an angle, or you'll scrape the front lip. This isn't a car you place carelessly.
The turbo four is the sensible engine in a car that isn't otherwise sensible. Expect somewhere around 9 to 10 litres per 100 km in mixed Dubai driving, more if you spend your time on the throttle, which you will. With a tank near 72 litres, that's comfortably several days of normal use between fills, so refuelling won't dictate your week. Salik tolls are on you as the renter, and any RTA fines picked up during the rental pass through to you, so watch the speed cameras when the open road tempts you. Seat belts are mandatory front and rear.
Rent the Camaro convertible if the experience is the point: a milestone weekend, a photo-worthy evening with the roof down, or a few days of driving something loud and quick that looks the part. As a two-person car for fun in the cooler months, it delivers.
Skip it if you need usability or you're booking in the peak of summer. Four adults, real luggage, or daily family duty will expose the token rear seats, the small boot and the awkward visibility fast, and roof-down driving is limited when the heat is at its worst. For that, a sports sedan gives you the pace with proper doors and space, and a grand tourer gives you comfort for long cruising. The Camaro trades all of that for noise, stance and an open roof. If that trade sounds good and the timing's right, it's the right call.
