Under the black bodywork it's the same fifth-generation platform Cadillac has built since 2021, the 6.2-litre V8, ten-speed automatic and all-wheel drive carried straight across without change. The 6.2 V8, and how it drives

The 6.2-litre V8 makes 420 hp and 623 Nm, sent through a ten-speed automatic to all four wheels, and none of that changed for 2025 and isn't likely to before this generation is replaced. It's tuned for weight and comfort rather than outright pace. Loaded with passengers and luggage, the Escalade still carries close to two and a half tonnes without strain, settles into a quiet cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road and keeps an overtake in hand near 120 km/h rather than needing to build up to it. What you notice more than the power is the length. At nearly 5.4 metres nose to tail, the car wants the whole lane, and the steering is set up for stability at speed rather than tight, quick corrections. Treat it as a highway and boulevard car rather than something you thread through traffic.

Underneath, the Escalade shares its platform and V8 with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, worth knowing if the badge isn't the point for you, since a Tahoe gets close to the same drive for less money. A Mercedes GLS rides more quietly and with more polish, though its third row gives up legroom the Escalade doesn't. Above the Escalade there's really only a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, for trips where the back seat is the entire reason for the booking.

The third row, and where the luggage goes

Seven seats, two captain's chairs in the middle row and a three-person bench across the back, are why most people book an Escalade over something smaller. The third row is the seat that surprises anyone who's only sat in a cheaper seven-seater before. Legroom back there is close to a mid-size sedan's rear bench, not the knees-up perch most SUVs hide behind the wheel arch, and the middle chairs slide and tip forward under their own power, so nobody's climbing over a folded seat to get back there.

Luggage takes more planning than seats do. With all three rows up, the boot holds 722 litres, enough for a real airport run with cases for four or five people. Fold the third row down and that grows to about 2,060 litres, and drop the middle chairs too and you're near 3,426. The ceiling every standard-length three-row SUV hits eventually is the one this car hits too: seven people and seven hard cases at once still means somebody's bag rides on a lap as a soft one. This is the regular-wheelbase Escalade, not the longer ESV, so a group that needs full seating and full luggage on every leg of the trip should look at the ESV instead.

Fuel bills, Salik and a black cabin in summer

The V8 is the honest price of all that room. Cadillac's combined figure is about 14.7 litres per 100 km, and real Dubai driving, stop-start with the air conditioning working the whole time, tends to land closer to 17 or 18. The 91-litre tank still buys a decent run between fills, but plan for fuel as a real weekly cost rather than an afterthought. Salik tolls collected during the rental are yours to cover, and so is any RTA fine that lands while you're the one driving.

Black paint over a black interior is a fair test for any air conditioning system on a summer afternoon. Left in an open lot for a couple of hours, the seats and wheel will be properly hot before the system catches up, so climb back in and give it a few minutes rather than expecting instant relief. Once it's running, the size stops being a problem. Front vents pull the cabin down fast, and the back gets its own set rather than whatever drifts from the front, so the third row isn't the last place to cool off.

Parking asks more of you than the drive does. At close to 5.4 metres long and just over two metres wide, this isn't a car you back into a tight multi-storey bay on instinct, and the ramps at Marina or Downtown reward patience over confidence. Around 203 mm of ground clearance handles speed bumps and steep mall ramps without drama, though that's a comfort figure for city roads, not a reason to go looking for tracks outside town.

Who this newest Escalade suits, and who should look elsewhere

Book this one if you're moving six or seven people with real luggage, or if turning up in something this size is genuinely part of the occasion: a wedding, a corporate transfer, a pickup where the car itself is doing some of the talking. Nothing short of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan gives you this much cabin with seven seats adults can sit in properly. If every leg of the trip needs full seating and full luggage together, the longer ESV covers that better than this one does.

Look elsewhere if it's one or two of you running errands around town. You'll spend the week parking a five-metre SUV and feeding a V8 for space nobody's using, when a mid-size crossover does the same job on a fraction of the fuel. As a premium rental, this one takes a refundable deposit rather than going out deposit-free. The kilometre allowance is 250 a day, with anything past that billed at AED 0.5 per km, and the desk will need you to be 25 or older to take the keys.
