Cadillac stretched a curved OLED display the width of the front seats for this generation, and it's the first thing anyone notices about the car, ahead of the badge or the size. The screen is the headline, but the questions that actually decide a week's rental sit underneath it: what the V8 costs to run, whether seven seats and the boot behind them fit your trip, and whether you need this much car at all.

The cabin tech, and what's underneath it

That dashboard is the real update for this generation. Cadillac fuses a 7.2-inch driver readout, a 14.2-inch instrument screen and a 16.9-inch touchscreen into one curved OLED panel spanning 38 inches, and unlike some flashy dash tech, it earns its place daily. The reversing camera fills that screen with a sharp, wide image, which matters more than it sounds when you're backing an Escalade this size into a Marina tower bay or a tight villa driveway. Sunlight doesn't wash it out either, and that's not a small thing at 45 degrees Celsius on Sheikh Zayed Road with the sun low.

Where the screen performs for an audience, the mechanicals underneath still decide whether the car is any good to drive. The 2024 car runs the 6.2-litre V8 GM has used across this generation, 420 hp and 623 Nm through a ten-speed automatic to all four wheels. It carries two and a half tonnes without strain, settles into a quiet cruise on the highway and always has an overtake in hand. None of that is new for 2024. The dashboard is.

Seven seats and the boot behind them

Under that big screen, the cabin does the job most renters actually book the Escalade for. Seven seats, usually two captain's chairs in the middle row and a bench across the back, with a third row that grown adults can sit in for more than a school run. That's rarer than it sounds. Most seven-seat SUVs give you a back bench a child tolerates for twenty minutes and an adult never wants twice, and the Escalade genuinely isn't that. The middle chairs slide and tip forward on their own, so getting into the third row doesn't take a contortion act every time.

The boot is where you plan the trip around what you're actually told, not what looks generous in a brochure. Behind the third row you get about 722 litres, big for this class and enough for a proper airport run with cases and a folded stroller. Fold the back row down and that grows to roughly 2,060 litres, and with the middle seats down too you're close to 3,400. The catch is the one every three-row SUV shares. Seven people and seven hard cases at the same time still means soft bags get tucked around feet, because this is the standard-length Escalade, not the longer ESV. If your trip genuinely needs full seating and full luggage together, the ESV is built for that and this one isn't.

Fuel, heat and living with the size

That V8 is the honest cost of everything above. Cadillac's own combined figure is about 14.7 litres per 100 km, and real driving around Dubai runs higher than that, closer to 17 or 18 in stop-start traffic with the air conditioning working hard. The 91-litre tank still gives you a reasonable stretch between fills, but treat the fuel bill as a real line item over a week, not an afterthought. Salik tolls during the rental are on you, and so are any RTA fines that land while you're driving it.

Heat is the test every big cabin faces here, and this one holds up. The climate system pulls a parked, sun-baked interior down steadily rather than straining against it, and rear passengers get their own vents, so the third row isn't living on whatever air drifts back from the front. Climb back in after a few hours in an open lot and it takes a few minutes to feel properly cool, not the wait you'd guess from a cabin this size.

Size is the daily trade-off. At close to 5.4 metres long and just over two metres wide, this isn't a car you thread through a tight multi-storey without the cameras on, and Marina and Downtown ramps ask for patience more than skill. The 203 mm of ground clearance shrugs off speed bumps and steep mall ramps without a thought, but it's a road figure, not an invitation to go looking for dunes.

Who should rent it, and who's over-buying

Book the Cadillac Escalade 2024 if you're moving six or seven people, hauling real luggage, or if arriving in something with this much dashboard drama is actually part of the trip. A Chevrolet Tahoe shares the same platform and engine for less money if the badge and the screen matter to you less than the seats do. A Mercedes GLS drives with more polish and a quieter cabin, but its third row is tighter and it doesn't have the same occasion inside. If your only requirement is maximum luggage with all seven seats filled, look at the longer ESV instead of this one.

Skip it if it's one or two of you running errands around the city. You'll spend the week parking a five-metre SUV and feeding a V8 for a cabin and a screen nobody else is using. As a premium rental the Escalade takes a refundable deposit, so there's no no-deposit option here. Your allowance is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, and you need to be 25 to collect the keys.
