The V8, and the newer cabin

The reason to take the 2023 plate over an older one is the dashboard. The big curved display dominates the front, the materials feel properly expensive, and the tech responds quickly rather than lagging, which counts on a long airport transfer or a week of shuttling a group around. Up front it's quiet, comfortable, and clearly a luxury car.

On the move the 6.2-litre V8 makes 420 horsepower and pulls two and a half tonnes to 100 km/h in about 6.7 seconds. That's enough to make overtaking on the E11 effortless, and the 10-speed automatic keeps it smooth and hushed at a 120 cruise. The ride is soft over Dubai's patched tarmac and expansion joints, exactly what you want with a cabin full of passengers behind you.

Seven people, and where the luggage goes

Start with the job most renters book it for. Seven adults fit, and the third row is for grown-ups rather than a folding afterthought, with real legroom and its own vents. Three across the middle travel comfortably too, so a full airport collection or a day out with the whole family works without anyone drawing the short straw.

The catch is the trade between people and bags. Behind the third row you've got roughly 722 litres, fine for soft bags and a few cases but not seven full suitcases. Fold the rearmost seats and it leaps to around 2,000 litres, and dropping everything gets you close to 3,400. For a full house arriving with full cases, treat that third row as people or cargo, not both, and the airport run sorts itself out with bags up front and a couple of passengers riding in the middle.

What it costs to run, and parking it

There's no dodging this: a V8 this big drinks. Plan for roughly 14 to 16 litres per 100 km in normal Dubai use, more when you're fully loaded in traffic with the AC working flat out. The 91-litre tank keeps pump visits reasonable, but you'll see one more often than in a smaller SUV, so factor fuel into the week before you commit.

Size is the other thing to plan around. At 5,382 mm long and 2,059 wide it's a lot of car to thread through a tight mall bay or a narrow Marina ramp. The surround cameras and sensors take most of the stress out, and the 203 mm of clearance handles speed bumps and steep mall entrances without a scrape. It's all-wheel drive, so a graded track to a desert camp is within reach, but serious soft sand is still a job for a dedicated 4x4.

Keeping a big cabin cool

A cabin this large needs real airflow to beat a Dubai summer, and the Escalade has it. The climate system is strong and feeds all three rows through separate vents, so the people in the back aren't sweating while the front stays cold. Parked in the sun it heats up like anything else, but a couple of minutes moving pulls the whole interior down. For a full load in July, those rear vents are what make it bearable for everyone, not just the driver.

The fine print, briefly

Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental fall to you, so keep an eye on the gantries and the limits on the E11. A child seat is required by law for under-fours, and we'll fit one on request.
