A Mercedes GLS is the German answer, smoother and quieter in the way it drives, but tighter in the third row and less of an occasion to sit in. The Escalade's case is simple. Nothing else in Dubai this side of a Rolls gives you this much cabin, this much drama and seven real seats at once.

Seven seats, and the luggage question

This is where the Escalade earns the size. It seats seven, usually two captain's chairs in the middle and a bench at the back, and the third row is the honest surprise. Most seven-seaters give you a back bench only a child can tolerate past twenty minutes. The Escalade's rear row takes grown adults on a proper run across town, and the middle chairs slide and tip to make getting back there easy. Nobody draws the short straw on the way to dinner.

Luggage is the part to think through. Size is the other daily reality. At nearly 5.4 metres long and just over two metres wide, tight multi-storey bays and Marina tower ramps ask for patience and the parking cameras. Who should book it, and who's paying for size they won't use
