The Cadillac Escalade 2021 is the oldest model year we still keep on the Dubai fleet, and for a lot of renters that is exactly the appeal. It opened this generation of Escalade, the version with independent rear suspension and the big curved screen that every year since has carried forward, and none of that has changed underneath. What has changed is the daily rate, because a five-year-old plate on a car this size books for less than a 2024 or a 2025 badge on the same mechanicals. We deliver it to your hotel, villa or terminal, usually within one to two hours. What this page settles is whether the age costs you anything real, or whether it just saves you money for the same seven seats and the same V8.
The 6.2-litre V8 under the hood makes 420 hp and 623 Nm through a ten-speed automatic, sending drive to all four wheels, and none of that is different from the newest Escalade on this site. Cadillac has run this exact powertrain since the platform launched for 2021, so the car you're booking drives the same way a 2025 does off the line and at speed. It carries two and a half tonnes without strain and settles into a quiet cruise on Sheikh Zayed Road with an overtake always in hand. The independent rear suspension, new for this generation, is the reason the ride is calmer than anything Cadillac built before it, and it's standard on this car from the first year of the model, not something added later.
Rivals frame the rest of the decision the way they always do with an Escalade. A Chevrolet Tahoe rides the same GM platform and the same V8 for meaningfully less money, so take that if the badge on the grille isn't worth paying for. A Mercedes GLS drives with more polish and a quieter cabin, though its third row is tighter and it doesn't have the same road presence. Above the Escalade sits a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, for the days the back seat is the entire trip.
Seven seats are the reason most people book an Escalade at all, arranged as two captain's chairs in the middle row ahead of a three-person bench at the back. The third row is the part that surprises anyone who has only sat in cheaper seven-seaters before. Legroom back there is close to what you'd find in a mid-size sedan's rear seat, and the middle chairs slide and tip forward on their own, so nobody climbs over a folded seat to reach it.
Luggage takes a bit of planning. With all three rows up you get 722 litres behind the last bench, enough for a genuine airport run with cases for four or five people. Fold the third row and that grows to about 2,060 litres, and with the middle chairs down too you're close to 3,400. The limit is the one every standard-length three-row SUV runs into: seven passengers and seven hard cases at once will still have someone's bag riding as a soft one on a lap. This is the regular-wheelbase Escalade rather than the longer ESV, so a group that needs full seating and full luggage together on every leg should look at the ESV instead.

An older model year doesn't change what the V8 drinks. Cadillac's own combined figure is about 14.7 litres per 100 km, and real Dubai driving, stop-start with the air conditioning working hard, tends to land closer to 17 or 18. The 91-litre tank still buys a decent stretch between fills, but treat fuel as a genuine weekly cost on a car this size. Salik tolls during the rental are yours to cover, and any RTA fines that land while you're driving pass to you as the renter, not us.
Black cabins hold heat, and after a few hours in an open lot this one will be properly warm before you climb back in. The system catches up fast once you're moving, and rear passengers get their own vents rather than whatever drifts back from the front two rows, so the third row isn't the last one to cool. None of that changes with the model year. A 2021 cools exactly like a 2025 does. The difference on this year is the price, not the performance.
Size is the daily trade-off, and it doesn't shrink with age either. At close to 5.4 metres long and just over two metres wide, threading a tight multi-storey bay without the reversing camera on is asking for trouble, and Marina or Downtown ramps want patience more than confidence. Around 203 mm of ground clearance shrugs off speed bumps and steep mall ramps without a thought, but treat that as a comfort figure for the road, not an invitation to go looking for tracks out past the city.
Book the Cadillac Escalade 2021 if you want the badge, the seats and the drive without paying for the newest plate on the paperwork. It's mechanically identical to the newer Escalades on this site, just at an easier rate, and for a wedding, an airport run for six or seven, or a week that genuinely needs the third row, it does the job as well as any year in this generation. If you specifically need the newest model year for a contract or a fleet list, pay for a later plate instead, because to everyone else on the road this is still the same enormous SUV.
Skip it if it's one or two of you running errands around the city. A five-metre SUV is a lot of car to park and fuel for a trip that a mid-size crossover covers for a fraction of the cost. If the badge doesn't matter to you, a Tahoe gets you the same space and the same engine for less. As a premium rental the Escalade takes a refundable deposit rather than a no-deposit option. Your allowance is 250 km a day, then AED 0.5 for every kilometre past that, and you'll need to be 25 to collect the keys.
