There's a version of the BMW X6 that just looks the part, and then there's this one. The 2025 X6 we rent in Dubai is the M60i: a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 making 530 hp, with 0 to 100 done in 4.3 seconds. That's supercar acceleration in a five-seat SUV body, and it changes what this car is for. We deliver it to your door or the airport within one to two hours, payment kept flexible and settled on handover. Our take: rent this if you want genuine V8 pace and the coupe-SUV look and you travel light on people and luggage. If space is the priority, the boxier X5 with the same badge is the smarter call, and we'll say why below.
The 4.4-litre V8 is the whole reason to choose this X6 over the six-cylinder. A 48-volt mild-hybrid layer fills in low down, then the turbos arrive and the thing simply launches. On Sheikh Zayed Road an overtake is a single confident press, no waiting for the gearbox to think, and the eight-speed auto snaps through ratios so smoothly you mostly forget it's there. At a steady 120 cruise it's quiet and dead stable, with xDrive keeping all that power planted if you catch a crosswind on an exposed flyover. Around town the V8 is muscular but civil, happy to potter without nagging you.
This is a fast car first and a practical one second. That order matters when you decide whether it fits your week.

No surprise here, the V8 drinks. Driven gently on a cruise you can keep it reasonable, but use the performance you're paying for and real Dubai figures climb to around 11 to 14 litres per 100 km in mixed city and highway running with the AC working. The 83-litre tank softens the blow and still gives you a usable few hundred kilometres between stops, so a normal week of city driving and a couple of longer runs means filling up once or twice. If a tight fuel budget is your concern, this is the wrong X6, and the six-cylinder version is the answer.
That sloping roofline is the X6's signature and it costs you real practicality. The boot holds 580 litres, which sounds generous, but the opening is shallow and the load floor slopes, so tall items don't stand up the way they would in a boxier SUV. Two large hard cases plus a couple of soft bags load fine. A full family's luggage stacked high does not. Drop the rear seats for 1530 litres and you've got room for bulky gear, as long as you're light on passengers.
Rear headroom is the other compromise. Two adults sit comfortably in the back, but anyone tall will feel the roof close in, and three across for a long trip is tight. If passenger and cargo space is your priority over the silhouette, the X5 gives you the same running gear and a proper roofline.
Dubai summers sit in the high 40s and a parked car becomes an oven. The X6's cabin is well sealed and the climate system is strong, pulling the temperature down fast once you're rolling, with rear vents for back-seat passengers. Crack the doors for a minute on the worst days and you're fine.
Size is the thing to plan around. At nearly five metres long and just over two wide, the X6 is a big car to thread through Marina towers and packed mall basements, so tight bays and valet ramps want patience. The 216 mm of clearance clears speed bumps and steeper ramps without scraping, and on the open road that footprint feels reassuring rather than awkward.
A few practicalities. Salik tolls run up at the gantries on the renter's account, and any RTA fines during the rental are yours. Note that this X6 bills extra distance at 5 AED per km beyond the daily allowance, more than the smaller cars, so plan longer trips accordingly. A child under four needs a child seat by law, so flag that when you book.
Rent the X6 M60i if you want a genuinely fast SUV with real road presence and you're mostly two-up with a sensible amount of luggage. The V8 is the experience you're paying for, the cabin is a fine place for a week, and on Dubai's highways it's seriously satisfying.
If you need maximum boot and rear room, take the X5 and keep the badge. If you'd rather not feed a V8, the six-cylinder X6 covers most of the same ground for less at the pump. The M60i trades fuel and a slice of space for pace and style, and for the right renter that's exactly the trade worth making.
