On Sheikh Zayed Road that translates to overtakes you barely plan and merges that take no effort at all.

What surprises people is how civil it is the rest of the time. The V8 is muscular but smooth, the gearbox shifts cleanly, and at a steady 120 on the E11 the cabin stays quiet. It's fast when you ask and calm when you don't, which is exactly what you want for a mix of city and motorway over a week.

Skip it if your trip is mostly short city errands, because you'll pay for the V8 at the pump for pace you rarely use; the six-cylinder X5 makes far more sense there. And if you need seven seats, this is a five-seater, so book a larger SUV instead. For a driver who wants speed and space in one premium package, though, the M50i is hard to beat.
