At 1 dirham per extra kilometre, the BMW X2 2024 is one of the cheapest cars to run hard over a week that we keep on the BMW shelf, which makes it a smart pick for anyone planning long days out around Dubai. We rent it from age 18 and deliver to your door or the airport in one to two hours. This is the small coupe-styled crossover with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive, a higher seat than a hatch and a roofline chopped for looks. The call this page helps you make is whether a premium badge and grippy all-wheel drive in a compact package are worth a tighter boot than a boxier rival. For a couple or a solo driver clocking up the kilometres, they usually are.
The X2 here is the xDrive20i: a 2.0-litre turbo four making 192 hp through an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds, which is brisk rather than fast, and that's the right read on this car. It's not chasing the hot-hatch crowd. What the all-wheel drive buys you is composure, the kind that keeps the car planted when a summer downpour leaves the E11 slick and the traction-light cars around you start to slide. Around town the turbo pulls cleanly from low revs, so nipping into a gap on Sheikh Zayed Road or pulling away from lights never feels like hard work.

The 61-litre tank with an official 6.5 to 6.7 litres per 100 km is the X2's strongest card for a busy week. In real Dubai driving, mostly stop-start city with bursts of highway, you'll see a little more than the official figure, but you're still looking at roughly 700 km between fills and a single top-up on most weeks. Pair that with the 1 dirham extra-kilometre rate and a day trip to Hatta or the east coast won't sting. Two costs stay with you whatever you drive: Salik tolls are charged to the renter at each gantry, and any RTA fine during the rental is yours.
The chopped roofline is the X2's whole personality, and it costs a little space, though less than people expect. The boot holds 470 litres, enough for two large cases and a couple of soft bags on an airport run to DXB or DWC. Fold the rear seats and you get up to 1355 litres, plenty for a flat-pack errand or a week's gear for two. The sloping glass means very tall, boxy items go in at an angle, so it's not the van-like square hold of a boxier crossover.
The rear seat is the real compromise. Two adults fit fine for a trip across town, but the roof closes in over taller heads and three across for a long leg is tight. For a couple, a solo driver, or two adults with a child, the back is fine. For four full-size adults all week, it isn't the right shape, and a regular SUV will serve better.
The X2 is compact, and that's a real advantage here. At 4.36 metres it slots into tight Marina bays and packed mall levels that have bigger SUVs hunting for room, and the standard sensors make it easy. The 182 mm of clearance handles speed bumps, sandy shoulders and mall ramps without scraping, so you're not crawling over every community hump. The xDrive system gives confidence on graded tracks, but leave soft sand to a proper 4x4, since this is a road car at heart.
Summer cooling is strong, which matters in a small cabin that bakes fast when parked. The climate system drags a sun-soaked interior down quickly once you're moving, the front vents hit hard, and there are rear outlets so back-seat passengers aren't left waiting. Give it a minute with the doors shut and it's comfortable. Child seats are required for under-fours under RTA rules, and we can fit one on request.
Rent the X2 2024 if you want a premium small SUV with grippy all-wheel drive and genuinely low running costs, and you're a couple or a solo driver who values an easy-to-park size over maximum boot space. The cheap extra-kilometre rate makes it one of the better-value ways to cover a lot of ground in a BMW over a week.
Step up to a boxier crossover if you regularly carry four adults or pack the boot to the roof, since the X2's sloped tail and rear headroom give a little away to the look. And if the badge isn't the point and you just want cheap space and strong AC, a mainstream compact SUV will save you money. But for someone who wants premium feel, all-weather grip and a small footprint, the X2 hits a sweet spot the bigger BMWs can't.
