If you want a compact SUV that doesn't look like every other compact SUV in the mall car park, the BMW X2 2024 is the one to rent in Dubai. It's the latest, larger generation of BMW's coupe-crossover, finished here in red, and we deliver it to your door, hotel, or the airport curb in one to two hours. Under the styling it's a proper BMW: 192 hp, xDrive all-wheel drive, and a chassis that feels keener than a regular small SUV. The decision this page helps you make is whether the sharper look and drive are worth a little less rear room than the X1 it shares its bones with.
This is the question that should decide your booking. The X2 and the X1 sit on the same platform and drive much the same, but the X2 trades a slice of headroom and a squarer boot for a lower, coupe-style roofline and more attitude. If you're a couple or a solo driver who wants the car to look good and feel sharp, the X2 is built for you. If you'll regularly carry four adults or pack the boot to the roof, the X1 is the more sensible call and you lose nothing in the way it drives.
The latest X2 is bigger than the model it replaced, at 4554 mm long, which softens the old car's tightness. Rear passengers have more room than before, though the sloping roof still closes in over a tall adult's head on a longer run. For kids, friends on a night out, or two adults with a child, the back is genuinely fine now.

This is where the format quietly pays off. Even at 4554 mm the X2 is compact for the segment, so tight multi-storey bays and the squeeze into a Marina basement aren't the ordeal a full-size SUV makes them. Forward visibility is good, the steering goes light at parking speed, and U-turns are easy. The shallow rear glass means you'll lean on the camera in a packed lot, but that's the only catch.
Ground clearance sits around 207 mm, more than enough to clear mall ramps and Dubai's speed bumps without the scraping you'd get in a low saloon, though you still slow for the sharper humps. It's an easy car to place in traffic and an easy one to live with for a week of errands.
The 2.0-litre turbo four makes 192 hp through the automatic and all-wheel drive, and 100 km/h comes up in 7.4 seconds. That's quick enough to make merging onto Sheikh Zayed Road a non-event and an overtake on the E11 a confident, deliberate move rather than a gamble. The xDrive system isn't about off-roading; it's about putting the power down cleanly and keeping the car planted through a fast interchange, the kind of composure most compact crossovers can't match. On a slick road after a rare downpour, that grip is genuine reassurance.
The boot is rated at 560 litres, which is generous for the class, though the loading shape is shallower than a boxy SUV because of the roofline. In real terms you'll fit two large cases plus a couple of soft bags for a DXB or DWC pickup. Push past that, four people each with a hard case, and you're folding part of the rear seat or repacking, and dropping the seats opens the hold to 1470 litres for two travelling with sports kit or shopping hauls.
On fuel, expect roughly 7.5 litres per 100 km on a mixed week, more if you sit in stop-start traffic with the AC fighting the heat. The 51-litre tank gives a comfortable range, so a typical visitor doing city driving and a couple of longer runs fills up about once across the week. Salik tolls and any RTA fines during the rental are the renter's responsibility.
A July car park is the real test, and the X2 handles it the way a premium BMW should. After the car has baked at 45 degrees, the climate system pulls the cabin down quickly once you're moving, and the front vents are strong and well placed. Rear passengers get their own outlets too, which matters if you're carrying people in the back through August rather than just luggage. The glass roofline heats up fast in full sun, so give it a minute on full cold before you load kids in, and park in shade where you can. Children under four need a proper child seat under RTA rules, which we can fit before delivery.
Rent the X2 2024 if you're a couple or a solo driver who wants a premium small SUV that looks sharp, sits a little higher than a hatch, and drives with real composure. The latest generation has grown enough to ease the old car's tightness, so you get the style without paying as much for it in space as before.
Step up to the X1 if four adults or a fully packed boot are your weekly reality, since that's where the coupe roofline still gives a little away. And if the badge isn't the point and you just want maximum space with strong AC for less, a mainstream compact SUV will do it cheaper. For the driver who wants premium feel, all-weather grip, and a shape that stands apart, the X2 is the pick.
