Bmw X1 2024 - start from 350 AED / day

We rent the BMW X1 2024 in Dubai and deliver it to your door in one to two hours, with a no-deposit option if you'd rather not lock up a chunk of your card. This is the newest-generation X1, and it's the one to take if you want a premium compact SUV that doesn't make you trade space or pace for the badge. Our honest read: for a couple or a small family who want something that feels expensive, parks easily, and still has room for a proper week of luggage, this is close to the sweet spot. It's quick enough for Sheikh Zayed Road and small enough for a Marina car park. Below we'll tell you where it shines and where you'd size up.

Room, and how the new cabin feels

The current X1 grew up. The cabin is the obvious upgrade over the older car, with a wide curved display running the instruments and the central screen, and surfaces that feel like money where your hands land. After a week in a mainstream crossover, sitting in this one is a clear step up.

It seats five. Two up front have generous space, and the back is genuinely usable for two adults or three kids. Three grown adults across the rear on a long run will be friendly with each other, but for the typical Dubai rental, parents plus a couple of kids, there's no squeeze. Headroom is good front and back, helped by the taller body of this generation.

What it's like to drive here

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder making 192 hp and 280 Nm, sent through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. You can have it front-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive. In normal Dubai use it feels brisk rather than fast, pulling away cleanly from lights and having the mid-range to overtake on the E11 without a run-up.

The dual-clutch gearbox is smooth once moving and snaps through ratios quickly. At low speed in stop-and-go Marina traffic it can feel a touch hesitant for a half-second as it picks a gear, which is normal for this type of transmission. Settle into a cruise at 120 and the cabin stays calm and quiet, the kind of composure the cheaper crossovers in the class can't match.

Fuel, and how often you'll stop

The 51-litre tank is the figure that matters for a week. Drive mostly in the city with the AC working hard and you'll land toward the thirstier end of the quoted 13 to 16.7 km/L. Sit on the highway and it stretches a long way, with BMW quoting up to 782 km on a fill. In practice that means a tank covers several days of normal running, and a couple of airport runs to DXB or DWC won't leave you hunting for a station mid-trip. For a premium turbo SUV, it's reasonable rather than thrifty.

Luggage and the school run

The boot takes up to 500 litres, which is solid for the class. Two people with a large case each plus a few soft bags fit without a fight. A family of four packing for a full week will want to drop one side of the rear seats for the bulky stuff. If you're collecting four adults with full-size suitcases from the airport, that's the moment I'd point you at an X3 instead. The X1 is honest family luggage, not a load-everything wagon.

Staying cool in summer

From May through September this is the spec that decides your comfort. Park in the sun at 45 degrees and any cabin turns into an oven, so what counts is recovery. The X1's climate system pulls the temperature down quickly once you're moving, the front vents hit hard, and there are rear outlets so kids in the back aren't left baking. Give it a minute with the doors shut after collection and it's comfortable. For a family, those rear vents earn their keep more than any trim option.

Parking and Dubai roads

At 4.5 metres long it's easy to place. Tight multi-storey bays, the steep Marina ramps, and mall car parks are all manageable, and the high seating position helps you judge the corners. The 205 mm of ground clearance shrugs off Dubai's speed bumps and the lips at mall entrances, so you're not wincing over every hump. With all-wheel drive it has more grip than you'll ever need on tarmac, but it's still a road car, not a dune machine. For soft sand you want a proper 4x4.

Costs that fall to you

Salik tolls are charged to you as you pass the gantries, and any RTA fines during the rental pass to you as well. A child under four needs a child seat by law, and we can fit one on request. Mileage runs at 250 km a day with extra distance at 1 AED per km, which is generous enough that most renters never touch it.

Who should rent it, and who shouldn't

Take the X1 2024 if you want a premium compact SUV with a modern cabin, easy parking, and enough pace and space for a couple or a small family. It's the best all-rounder in this size for a Dubai week, and the newest cabin tech is a real reason to pick this year over the older car. Size up to an X3 if you regularly carry four adults with full luggage or you'll have the boot packed every day. And if the badge and the cabin aren't your priority, a mainstream crossover will give you similar space for less money. Pick this one when the premium feel is the point.
